John Hoffman Obituary

Prairie Village, Kansas - John Hoffman, 70, of Prairie Village, KS was taken from the world too soon on the morning of May 1st, 2021.
John was born at Grace Hospital in Gardner, KS on November 6, 1950 and raised in De Soto along with 4 brothers: Gary, Larry, Jimmy, and Brent. After graduating from De Soto High School with the Class of 1968, he attended Southwestern University where earned a degree in history. John married Marsha Crotts in 1971, with whom he shared 21 years of marriage and three children, Andrew, Brian, and Samantha.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Agnes Hoffman of De Soto, KS, as well as his brother Gary Hoffman of Pittsburg, KS. John is survived by his children, Andrew Hoffman of Wichita, KS, Brian Hoffman of Edwards, MO, and Samantha (Joe) Hall of Wichita, KS, and his grandchildren, Ava Hoffman (11), Parker Hall (6), and Layla Hall (3), all of Wichita, KS. He is also survived by his brothers Larry (Patty) Hoffman of El Macero, CA, Jimmy (Lori) Hoffman of De Soto, KS, and Brent Hoffman of Boulevard, CA, and countless cousins.
John worked as an Optician for many years in Wichita, KS. In 1996, he moved to Gardner, KS and spent the next 21 years selling safety and environmental supplies, retiring in 2017. He found his true calling in life as Poppa when his granddaughter Ava was born in 2010, and his fan club expanded in 2015 and 2017 with the births of Parker and Layla.
John was an active and beloved member of many communities, where he will be remembered for his kindness and generosity. He took a genuine interest in everyone he encountered, often going out of his way to help those who needed it. John valued above all else his relationships with those close to him: children, grandchildren, brothers, cousins, neighbors, and life-long friends. He always looked forward to his trips to the Lake of the Ozarks and representing his O'Connor clan in the St Patrick's Day parade.
Services in remembrance of John will be held at Curé of Ars Catholic Church in Leawood, KS. A visitation will be held from 6:00pm – 8:00pm on Friday, May 7th. Mass and funeral services will be on Saturday at 10:00am, followed immediately by a celebration of life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's honor to the Foundation Fighting Blindness to advance research into curing degenerative retinal disease (give.fightingblindness.org/fundraiser/3248730).

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Any sotry of John was of his kindness to all and most especially his family. I remember the fun times we had when our kids were young, he was full of laughter no matter the occasion. I know he cherished the time spent with his grown up children and especially with his grandchildren.

I grew up with Johnny in DeSoto when he lived next door to my grandmother. I enjoyed catching up with him at the DHS reunion. He was such a kind, compassionate person. He will be missed.
