KAREN MARIE KING

Karen Marie King, of Olathe, KS, passed away Monday, February 17, 2014. A visitation will be from 1:30- 2:30 PM followed by Funeral Mass at 2:30 PM Friday, February 21, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 13615 W. 92nd Lenexa, KS 66215. Burial will be at the National Cemetery, Leavenworth, KS. Memorial contributions may be made to the Melanoma Research Foundation, 1411 K Street, NW Suite 800, Washington, DC 20005, or online. Karen was born in Holyoke, MA. She received her BS in Nursing from the University of MA. Later she received Masters Degrees in Nursing and Hospital Administration. Her first nursing position was at Yale Medical Center. She was then a captain in the US Air Force at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, TX. Her career continued as a civilian in El Paso, TX, Olean & Buffalo, NY, Nashville, TN, Salt Lake City, UT and Kansas City. Karen and Floyd enjoyed travelling to Grand Cayman, cruises on both coasts, and spending time with their dog, Sophia. Family meant the world to her, and she thoroughly enjoyed family vacations in Topsail Beach, NC, skiing in the Northeast, many family celebrations, holidays, as well as just "Hanging Out" with her nieces. She was the VP of Patient Services for Providence Medical Center and also worked at Samuel Rogers Health System. She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Hollis Floyd King, her mother Olga Lajzer, sister Marcia and her husband Ken Peters, two loving nieces Kara and Jamie (whom she adored).
