I have never met Lee, except through emails. He and I talked about a program that he was doing for A&E about his Civil War Ancestor who was in the 141st NY Infantry. My ancestor was also in the 141st. My sympathy to his family. I am so sorry for your loss.

I do not know if this site is still up, but feel I must try to express something of my thoughts and feelings. I just learned of Lee's passing yesterday, Oct. 25.

Lee had the most profound influence upon my sense of humor, what mattered in music, art, and fun. I knew him before & after high school and college. I cherish a painting he gave me, and still wear the Tolkien ring he made and gave to me. He & I once won a twist dance contest at NWMSU, and I may still have the hubcap trophy.

I knew his family, too, and my heart goes out to his dad--a man Lee loved & respected deeply, and to Diane as well. I wish I could have seen Lee one more time just to see his impish smile and to tell him how much his life has meant and will always mean to me.

Lee and I spent a lot of time together in the mid-80s making art, listening to great music and making each other laugh ourselves to tears. We drifted apart but I'll never forget Lee. He taught me much. Cheers, Lee!

Lee was my second cousin whom I just had met in 2010 at our Family Reunion. Communicating with him we found a lot of common ground in our love of geneology, and the civil war. I was profoundly saddened by his passing, and send my deepest sympathy to his family. I only wish I had more time to spend getting to know him. I feel honored to have known him.

Lee: Now you are in peace. I'm glad you are not suffering anymore. I'm glad I got to help you through some tough times after your accident. I could always talk to you in a way you would listen. I just wish I knew all this history about you. Artist. Scholar. US Coastguard. Wow What a special person I cared for in the hospital. I knew you were a strong person mentally and physically. You got your wish- I didn't want you to suffer the rest of your life neither. I have been praying for you and your family. Until we meet again. As your dad called me your angel and I always smiled back at you-now I'm hoping you are smiling back at us with your mom, sister, wife, and other family members and friends who are with you. Donna

I went to NWMSU with Lee. His roomate Craig Roush dated my sister. He gave me one of his paintings back in 1974. The painting is of the Dean Pearson house that used to be on 3rd and Dewey in Maryville. He told me he wanted to give me the painting so I would always remember him. I remember him as a fun loving person that had a very unique style of his own. I loved his old car and cat too. I will miss him. My most sincere sympathies to his loved ones.

I always enjoyed Lee and will miss his extremely interesting take on things. He was a very kind and humorous person.

When we were in seventh grade, Lee and I made a $1 bet on the '61 World Series. I won. He didn't pay. It became a standing joke between us after that. We'd be talking about something and he'd go, "Don't I still owe you a dollar?" Went on that way right through high school. Farewell, Lee.

Lee was a very important part of my life, I met him in college. He taught me things and made me feel cool just by being his friend.
I'm going to miss him so much. There aren't words to explain it.
It doesn't seem right that we lost him so soon, there was so much more to do. Sure wish I could have had just a little more time with him.

My greatest sympathy to his family.

Lee was a brilliant artist, a great talker and storyteller, a lover of music and books, and ultimately, a really kind soul.

Lee and I were very tight friends at NWMSU in 1970-72 and continued our friendship and contact for many years after. In more recent years our contact had waned considerably.
Lee had a profound effect on my artistic development as well as an appreciation for jazz and a broader sense of humor.
I will miss Lee immensely...

I was friends with Lee back in the 70's and moved away and returned 20 years ago. I just reconnected with him via Facebook...I'm sorry I never got to see him in person after all these years. He was a talented person and will be missed.

Lee was a nice man, always eager to help whatever media problem you might have. I knew him at Longview where he was a permanent fixture. My sympathy to his father and the rest of his family. Michael Benson
