MARY COOPER Obituary

Mary Ann Walton Cooper, affectionately known as Mimi, died January 25, 2015, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Corsicana, Texas, on Dec. 31, 1925, she was the daughter of Jesse Lanier Walton and Mary Dumas Walton of Houston, Texas. She was always proud to be a Texan. She attended Stephens College and the University of Texas where she studied art and fashion design. In 1954, Mary Ann and her husband, Dr. Charles Sherwood Cooper moved to Kansas City where he established his medical practice. Dr. Cooper predeceased her on March 11, 1989. She is also predeceased by grandson, Jesse Lanier Cooper. She is survived by her sons, Charles S. Cooper II (Catherine) of Savannah, Ga., and Christopher Walton Cooper (Marianne) of Kingston, Mass. Mrs. Cooper is also survived by four grandchildren, Anne Dunwody Cooper of Charlotte, NC, Caroline Walton Cooper of Costa Mesa, Calif., Catherine Lanier Cooper of Savannah, Ga., and Charles Sherwood Cooper III (Carrie) and great grandchildren, Chuckie, Lanny and Lucy of Lee's Summit, Mo. Mrs. Cooper was a member of Country Club Christian Church and participant of the Prayer Circle Group. She also was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Many of her fondest memories were days spent with her husband, Chuck at the M-Bar-C Ranch where together they bred cattle. Mary Ann spent many of her later years with her beloved friend and companion, Dr. Charles White. Mrs. Cooper's family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the kind and caring staff at Claridge Court as well as Continua Hospice. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any memorial contributions in her name be made to Country Club Christian Church, 6101 Ward Parkway, Kansas City, MO 64113. Funeral is to be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, at Country Club Christian Church chapel with reception to immediately follow at noon. Private family burial to follow.
