I also just heard the news of his passing through the alumni mag. I am very shocked. when I think of NWMSU friends, he comes to mind first. We always had something fun to laugh about. We had many classes together, worked on yearbook and graduated together. Loving thoughts to his friends and family. Jennifer Siy

I also just found out about Mr. Dunlap through the alummi mag and was quite shocked as well. When I think of NWMSU, he is one person I will recall first. He was funny and we always had a good laugh about anything silly I could think of. I worked with him on yearbook staff , had many mass com classes together and we graduated the same year. Loving thoughts to his close family and friends.

I just found out through the Northwest Alumni magazine about Michael's passing. He was a gifted individual and I have fond memories of working with him at the Northwest Missourian in the late 80's. He will truly be missed and is a shining example of what makes the Northwest Missouri State University journalism department one of the best in the nation.

I'm shocked and saddened at the news of Michael Dunlap's passing. Mike was a student of mine when I taught at Northwest Missouri State University. He was one of the most creative people I have ever met, as evidenced by the numerous awards and honors he won as a teacher and yearbook adviser. He was a an annual fixture here at K-State for the Flint Hills Workshop and at other yearbook adviser events. His warm spirit richly blessed those who knew him, and many, many young people will always be better because Mike challenged their creative skills.

All three of my kids were students of Mike's - one in Lawrence, and two at Blue Valley West. His name always came up at our house in discussions about favorite teachers. What a nice, fair, funny, low-key guy. I hope his family finds comfort in the fact that he made a difference in a lot of lives in his short time here.

Michael Dunlap had a national reputation for being the kind of teacher, the kind of person, we all should aspire to be. To his family and his students, please know this loss has saddened all who loved him, and all who love yearbook as much as he did.

Mr. Dunlap taught both Lauren and Ryan and they always talked highly of him and how much they admired him. He will be dearly missed and will always be remembered for his ability to inspire them to do greater.
Our thoughts and prayers got out to you all in this time of sadness.
Take care and God bless.

I was one of Mike Dunlap's first students and all of my closest friends from high school had their lives shaped by him. He was the kind of teacher and friend you are incredibly lucky to have once in a lifetime. To know that he has joined his father and others he loved dearly is comforting in the face of such an enormous loss.

Michael Dunlap was more than a journalism teacher (more than 15 years ago), but he truly inspired me to follow my goals and dreams. The world has loss an amazing force for good, creativity, inspiration and love. When the other seniors were going to the yearbook picnic, Mike, Eric and I headed to the plaza for lunch and to celebrate our work on the paper. Mr. D., you will be missed.

I had the pleasure of being both Mike's student years ago, and colleague after college. He was a joy to work with and my heart is breaking at this tragic loss.

Mrs. Dunlap, Mr. Morrison & entire family,
Our son Graham was a journalism student of Mr. Dunlap's just this past spring. He is so sad about his death yet he takes comfort in knowing that every day he saw his teacher in the morning he greeted him ,he connected with him. Graham said Mr. Dunlap was always about helping his students and he truly felt he understood him.Writing has always been difficult for Graham yet he excelled at it with Mr. Dunlap's guidance.
Graham & our entire family honor the contribution Mr. Dunlap made as a teacher and role model. Graham will miss him very much.
May he rest in peace.
