Michael Farrar Obituary

Dr. Michael Farrar
March 3, 1955 - August 23, 2023
Smithville, Missouri - Dr. Michael William Farrar passed on August 23, 2023. Michael was born on March 3, 1955 to William L. and Velma L. Farrar in Lawrence, Kansas. He is survived by both parents.
Michael excelled at everything he did. He achieved his Eagle Scout designation before many his age, and was recognized as a Shaman of the Mic-O-Say Tribe, a meaningful tradition to scouting and the Kansas City community.
Michael graduated from North Kansas City High School in 1973. Despite his inherited and lifelong love for the KU Jayhawks, he attended the UMKC School of Medicine as its first accepted Northlander.
Michael was a founding member of Northland Cardiology (now Meritas Cardiology) with North Kansas City Hospital (NKCH), where he worked for over 30 years. He gave his heart and soul to the people of the Northland, serving the hospital at every turn, including as President of Medical Staff. Unquestionably though, his love for medicine paled in comparison to his love of being "Gramps" to his beautiful granddaughter, Norah.
Michael is also survived by his wife Angela; his daughter Kate Donaldson and her husband Clint, and their daughter, Norah, his sister Vicki Thompson and her husband Joe; his sister Karen English and her husband Brad; and his nephews Andrew Bischoff, Joel Bischoff, Alex Beal, and Jack Beal.
Mike was preceded in death by his son, Timothy Scott, and daughter, Kelly Christine.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers please consider donating to any of the following organizations:

A lovely man and fantastic physician. Kind to all and made a person feel important no matter what position they held. Thank you, Dr Farrar. Rest well.

Joyce Termini

August 30, 2023

Dr. Farrar was my husband's cardiologist for the past 15 years. He always joked with George that they shared a bond since they had both experienced mitral valve surgery and brain surgery. It was sort of a fraternity. When George passed last November, I received a sympathy card with a handwritten message, "I am so sorry to hear that Mr. Termini passed. I always liked him and will miss seeing him in the office." He signed it simply Mike Farrar. That classy, yet humble act was indicative of Dr. Farrar's compassion. We will all miss him. RIP and Godspeed, Dr. Farrar

Our hearts go out to Dr. Farrar´s family. Kate, since I taught at PHS, we would talk about your education. We always had the best chats during my appointments. He saved my life 15 years ago when I was in cardiac failure. And three years ago he helped my son with his heart issue. No one else would even look at his issue, but Dr. Farrar did. He solved it and now my son is a healthy college student. I could never repay him for that. We are a part of his legacy. Rest in peace Dr. Farrar and thank you for all that you have done for my family.

Around 30 years ago as a new nurse I cared for Mike as a patient. This experience gave me insight to his very personable and human side. If not for this experience, I would have known him as a superhero of sorts that put others needs before his own -always willing to assist with new ways to tackle a problem. Dr Farrar will be very missed by the community he served and Mike will be remembered as a sincere, fun loving, kind man.

Wow, I am in shock this was such a pillar to the community , I was a new nursing grad when I first met him and learned so much from him , then met him several times when I had private patients that he would see and then he was my cardiologist when I had my first heart attack . He was such a patient gentle physician , he would spend as much time as the patient needed him to spend explaining why things work they way they do, he was the world to many of his patients and will be missed sorely by colleagues, patients , staff and the whole community .

I don´t normally write on these but Dr Farrar was so close to my heart. I met him in 1993 when my mother Delila McCarty had the heart attack and destroyed the heart muscles. She lived 3 years and we became close to him. He then became my doctor also and always reminded me each years visit how I told him I could get a helicopter and fly my mom out and he told me to trust him so I did and that was truly the best decision. Kate we talked about you and Norah each years visit also from the time you danced ballet in the nutcracker to moving with your family to Texas and back to Kansas and back to Texas. He loved talking about his visits with you. I trusted him with my life and will miss not only his skills as a cardiologist but as my friend. May God place his arms around you all to comfort you.
