Michael Sayer Obituary

WAYNE SAYER February 23, 1948May 30, 2003 Lt. Col. Michael W. Sayer, retired, 55, of Kansas City, Missouri formerly of South Bend, IN. passed away at 11:50 a.m. Friday, May 30, 2003 in the University of Kansas Medial Center. Lt. Col. Sayer graduated from St. Joseph High School in South Bend in 1966. He completed his Bachelor's Degree at the University of Notre Dame in 1970 and received his Master's Degree from the University of Arkansas. He was honored as a distinguished officer throughout his military career with several personal decorations and awards. His career concluded in 1996 with an Honorable Discharge when he retired from the United States Air Force after 25 years of service. Lt. Col. Sayer was a 4th Degree member of the Raytown Knight's Of Columbus and a member of the local DAV and VFW. Lt. Col. Sayer was a member of St. Regis Catholic Church in Raytown, Missouri. He was born on February 23, 1948 in South Bend to Stephen and Julia (Nemeth) Sayer. On May 30, 1969 in South Bend he married Rosemary Kaczmarczyk, who survives. Also surviving are his mother, Julia Sayer of South Bend; two daughters, Julie Sayer of Kansas City, MO and Melissa (Ryan ) Tobaben of Overland Park, KS; a son Michael Sayer of Kansas City, MO: 4 grandchildren, Geoffrey, Lauren, Melissa, and Colton; a sister Kathleen Baugher of South Bend, and a brother Stephen (Jeaneen) Sayer of South Bend, and many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 5, 2003 in Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church, South Bend. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery, South Bend. Family and friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 Wednesday in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 S. Kemble Avenue, South Bend, IN 46613, where a Rosary will be recited at 3 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Brain Injury Association of America, c/o KeyBank. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date in Kansas City. The Lord has called him home. May he rest in peace. (Arrangements: Zahoran Funeral Home, Inc., 574-287-7125)
