PHYLLIS JEANNE WEST

(LAPIDES) Phyllis Jeanne West, 80, of Naples, Florida, previously of Minneapolis, MN, Chillicothe, Ohio and Kansas City, MO passed away peacefully on June 7, 2010. She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Jack E. West and daughter, Holly West Jones (Walt) and son, Skip West (Cheryl) and 4 grandchildren, Win and Elisabeth Jones and Taylor and Carly West as well as, brother-in-law, Jim West and niece, Alison Schuilla (Tony). Phyllis was born on July 24, 1929, in Kansas City, MO, to Clarence and Opal Lapides. She attended Southeast High School, where she was a member of Theta Chi Sorority. Following high school Phyllis attended Kansas City Junior College. She was a founding member of The Young Matrons Club of Johnson County Kansas and after moving to Minnesota she was an active member of Minneapolis Children's Hospital Auxiliary. Phyllis was a devout Christian and a Stephens Minister. Besides being a devoted wife and mother, Phyllis will be remembered most as a great friend, she was the best friend anyone could ever hope for. Her home was always welcoming and she always entertained with great style. The family would like to give a heartfelt thank-you to Dr. Merrit Gadallah. Memorial services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 11, at Community Congregational Church of Naples. A reception followed celebrated Phyllis' life was held at Longshore Lake Tennis Club. A memorial will be held in Kansas City later this summer, please watch for notice in the paper.
