He was born Oct. 15, 1934, in Sedalia, Mo., the son of Herbert and Hattie Schulz and called Sedalia home until moving to Kingswood Senior Living Community in Kansas City, Mo., in 2011. Skip is survived by his wife of 56 years, Barbara Rissler Schulz of the home, three daughters, Stacey Hunter (Jeff) Liberty, Mo., Sarah Gaddy (Brian), Liberty, and Stephanie Herthel (Todd), Spring Hill, Kan.; six grandchildren and one great grandson; one brother, Bob Schulz (Martha) Louisville, Ky.; one brother and sister in law, Alex and Judy Berenyi, Kansas City, several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25, at Kingswood Senior Living community. A reception and visitation will be held at the same location immediately following the memorial service. Burial will be at a later time in Crown Hill Cemetery, Sedalia. Skip was a 1952 graduate of Smith- Cotton High School and returned to his Alma Mater in 1960 as a mathematics teacher and coach in Sedalia District #200 from 1960 to 1990. He taught plane geometry, second year algebra, trigonometry, and he volunteered to teach an early morning Calculus class before the regular school hour began. He enjoyed teaching and many times when he was asked what he taught, he would say, "Kids." He has a Masters Degree in Teaching Mathematics from U of MO Rolla. In keeping with his passion for teaching, he donated his body to the University of Missouri Medical School. He applied his experience from playing football and baseball at Mizzou in 1956-57 and his time as a pitcher with the Chicago White Sox farm league in 1957-58 to coaching the two sports at Smith-Cotton from 1960-90. He was in the Army 1958- 1959. He completed his Basic training at Fort Leonard Wood was sent to Fort Eustis, Va., but was quickly relocated to Fort Benning, Ga., so he could pitch for the Post baseball team. He was a multi-talented person - intellectual, athletic, artistic and a devoted father and husband. In past years he was named Person of the Year at First Christian Church, honored several times by former students as the Educator Who Most Influenced Their Lives, and awarded the Junior JC's Outstanding Young Educator. He was a lifetime member of National Education Association; a member of Missouri State High School Activities Assoc.; Missouri Public School Retirees Assoc.; the Sedalia Country Club and an active member of First Christian Church, Sedalia. His family and friends have enjoyed the results of his talent in oil and water color paintings and carving and sculpting in wood and wax, building items in oak and walnut and restoring hundreds of relics and family heirlooms to their former beauty. Grace Hospice of Kansas City and the caregivers at Kingswood's Memory Community were angels of mercy. We thank them for their compassion, patience, and professional care. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in his memory to the "Skip Schulz-Say You Will" scholarship at the Sedalia School District Foundation, PO Box 2505, Sedalia, MO 65301, or online at www.sedaliaschooldistrictfoundation.org

Mr. Shultz was my favorite teacher and made math fun (yes, math!). He would teach with humor and always looked for the best in every student. He is the first example I bring up about what a great teacher should be.

Coach Schultz was one of the men, along with other SC coaches who influenced me enough to want to walk in their footsteps and become a coach. 40 years of working with high school students was all that I anticipated...thanks Coach for showing me the way.

Coach Schulz was a great mentor in my life. I was blessed to know him and his loving family. I will never forget his leadership and upbeat spirit. I am thankful for his memory that lives today, through the thousands of lives he touched. This heartfelt poem embodies my fondest memories of Skip My life shall touch a dozen lives before this day is done, leave countless marks of good or ill, err sets the evening sun. This the wish I always wish, the prayer I always pray, Lord, let my life help other lives it touches by the way."

Coach "Skip" was without a doubt my favorite teacher! Such a passionate, inspirational leader, he had a way of applying his math lessons to real life experiences; it made you appreciate the application of math to real life. (I'll forever remember the final test that - if you got the graphing formulas correct, you drew Snoopy on his doghouse in full Red Barron outfit, I didn't do so well on that test, but I did LEARN!) Such a gentle and caring man. The world is so blessed to have had you. RIP Coach, only wish I'd had the talent to play on your teams.
