Ray Firestone Obituary

The Rev. Ray Firestone, 80, Kansas City, MO, a retired United Methodist minister and former director of libraries, died March 25, 2005, in his home. Rev. Firestone was associate pastor at First United Methodist Church, Olathe, 198084. He also served churches in Kansas at Rosalia, Ellinwood, Crestview in Topeka, Garnett, Parsons, Reading, Miller, Vinland, Iola, and Ottawa, retiring in Kansas City in 1989. In addition. he was Director of Libraries and curator of the Quayle Rare Bible Collection at Baker University 1970-80. He graduated from Wichita High School East, Friends University, received a master's degree in divinity from Yale University Divinity School and another master's degree in librarianship from Emporia State Teachers College. He has been active in the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection in Overland Park. He completed almost three years of service as conscientious objector in World War II. He was born in Dunnegan, MO, but spent most of his early life in Wichita, KS. His wife, Rose Mary Riesenmey, lost her life in an accident in 1972. Survivors include two daughters, Ruth Ann Firestone of Dallas, TX, Sara L. Firestone of Mt. Pleasant, SC; and son, David Shelton Firestone, Olathe, KS. Services will be held on Wednesday, March 30. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. at Baldwin City Cemetery, Baldwin City, KS. That evening, the family will receive visitors beginning at 5:30 p.m. at The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection, followed by a Life Celebration Service at 7 p.m. Memorial gifts may be made to Yale University Divinity School, New Haven, CT, or any of the churches he served. Dear Ruth Ann. I was very shocked to hear about your dad, my about 3rd cousin...I knew he was sick, but was very saddend. I will try to send you my Miller info as soon as I can. Please e mail me and let me know where to send it. My husband Jules and I were fortunate to stay with him a few years back. He also came to our place in Oregon. I will really miss him and working on our Miller line together. Take care and condolances to all of your family.
