Richard Shingleton Obituary

Richard Lee Shingleton
May 11, 2021
Olathe, Kansas - On May 11, 2021, our Lord and Savior spoke and called Rick Shingleton home. Rick was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, self-proclaimed golf pro, and grill master extraordinaire.
Rick graduated from Harmon High School, class of 1979, where he was an All-State Defensive Back. An honor Rick was very proud of and never let any of us forget! He played baseball for Kansas City Kansas Community College and Missouri Western University. After his collegiate career, Rick carried on his love of sports by teaming with his friends and playing men's fast pitch for The Sport's Page. Their shenanigans, too numerous to list, were epic.
Those of us lucky enough to know Rick saw a man that was truly one of a kind and had a heart of love and compassion. Ricky or "Uncle Ricky," loved his family first and his friends a very close second. His love of sports led him to coach his son Kris' football team throughout elementary and middle school. His infectious enthusiasm guaranteed to get him ejected from at least one game each year. When his daughter played high school softball, Rick could be found cheering (yelling) in a lawn chair from the right field. Rick spent countless hours in the driveway playing basketball with his children. Teaching them technique and holding free-throw competitions that he always won.
Once he hung up his cleats and stored his bat bag, golf became his new passion. He was the central figure of many golf trips to Las Vegas. This past April he invited many of the younger men from Heritage Park Golf Course to experience the joys of a Vegas golf trip. A trip they will never forget.
Ricky was a father figure to many and one who had a perspective on life that was exactly what you wanted to hear. He was not a fan of the PC or cancel culture and was not shy about it. Rick was dynamic and engaging and an individual friends and family wanted to be around. Rick brought the party.
As the memories and stories live on, Rick's legacy will always be as the person you could count on to show up when he said he would there. He was a man of principle and integrity. A man of honor. The bottom line is that when the good Lord made Ricky Shingleton, he broke the mold. He was truly one of a kind and while it is hard to understand why he needed to leave us, we are certain heaven is a better place with him there.
Rick leaves behind his wife, Kendrea; children, Laura (Josh) and Kristopher (Brittany); grandson, Bennett; mother, Carol; sister, Becky (Sim); niece, Amy (Mark), nephew, Glenn (Danielle), and numerous cousins.
The family would like to thank the health care professionals at Olathe Medical Center for their dedication during the current COVID crisis. We are sincerely grateful to the attentive staff who comforted and cared for Rick during his last days.
"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:7

Family,
I thank Ricky for his constant positive attitude, especially on the golf course, I will keep it more in mind now than ever.
Always fun, laughing and making us laugh...that´s why we´re here.
Gone too soon, he will be missed by all who knew him. I never step into a street without a double check on traffic.
Rest in the peace of the Lord, Ricky, and peace be with your fine family.
We´ll talk to you like you´re still here.

To Carol, Becky, and the rest of the family. I'm Very sorry for this hard and sudden loss. My message comes from an experience of multiple losses, including this one. The pain will subside over time, but it will never be forgotten. That is because of love. So stay close to one another, and rejoice telling and re-telling the stories of this good man. He will be greatly missed. Mark "Digger" O'Dell Tucson AZ.
