Rodney Padilla Obituary

Rodney James Padilla, Sr., 53, of Kansas City, MO, met his savior on January 10, 2006, at North Kansas City Hospital. Mass of Christian burial to be held at 10 a.m., Monday, January 16, at Holy Name Catholic Church. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 68 p.m., Sunday, at Maple Hill Funeral Home; where the Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m., Sunday. Rodney was born on November 30, 1952, to Rodrigo and Virginia (Bustamante) Padilla and was a lifelong resident of the Kansas City area. He retired from the United States Postal Service in 2001, after 26 years of service as a Letter Carrier. Rodney lived everyday of his life to the fullest and on his own terms. He enjoyed his time with family and friends in spite of suffering from renal failure and required dialysis since 2001. Rodney and his family were looking toward January 18, 2006, when he was to receive a kidney transplant. His sister, Teri Padilla, was to be the donor. Instead, by his death, Rodney was able to offer a chance at life to another by becoming an organ donor, himself. Rodney was preceded in death by his parents, Rodrigo and Virginia; and infant twin daughters, Christine and Jennifer. He is survived by his wife, Stacie; daughter, Denise Gomez and husband, George; son, Rodney, Jr., and wife, Teresa; daughter, Monique; son, Dominic; granddaughters, Alexa and Corrina Gomez; brother, Craig Padilla; brother, Brian Padilla; sister, Teri Padilla and companion, Ann Hart; sister, Yvonne Sanchez and husband, Rudy; and many other family members and friends that loved him and will miss him more than words can express. Why Did You Leave Us So Soon...



Rodney I don't understand why you left us so soon. Why it had to happen. It would only have been a couple of days when you would have had your transplant. We would have been complete.



You left us with our hearts aching, our lives are lost without you. Lost with emptiness that can't be filled. We don't understand why.



The only thing I can understand is that God must of have had a different plan for you. He needed you home now. And when the time comes he will join us. Mean while watch over us and keep us close.

First and formost, a BIG thanks to each and everyone who took the time and expressed their condolances and/or love for my brother Rodney. It is understandable that he will be missed by alot of people. We (his brothers and sisters) feel that we've lost two people; a father and brother.



There are few people that are more stirring than Olympic medalist, and my brother Rodney was one of them. He turned his weakness (sickness) to strength. He had a champion's heart. And I thank God that my brother was a Christian.



I believe because he loved God, he was able to feel joy and peace in spite of his immediate, challenging circumstances. I will miss him dearly.

I started working with Rodney in 1986 when I started at the Post Office. Rodney always brightened the day with his hand written comics and he loved to tape a tail or note on people and everyone got a big kick out of it until the person caught on. I considered him and Stacie very good friends and will miss Rodney alot. My heart goes out to Stacie and all his children and family. You are in my thoughts always.

Dear Padilla Family

I knew Rodney since high school.He was always a very nice person.He liked everyone he knew. I will miss him also. To Ace who was always by Rodney's side I know he will always be your angel. God needed another rose for his garden and Rodney was the lucky one who got picked. I know there can not be a more beautiful place than by the side of our LORD JESUS CHRIST.
