Ronald Christy Obituary

Ronald Moen Christy, 61, of Lee's Summit, Missouri, died Thursday at the Kansas City Hospice House after a brief, heroic battle with brain cancer. He was a member of the first graduating class of Raytown South High School and, along with his children, survived the Hyatt disaster of 1981. He specialized as a broker/owner in the automobile business. Ron excelled as a high school baseball and football star, and was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan. His family will remember him as a loving and generous father and friend, a prankster with a playful sense of humor, for his musical ability and for his willingness to help anyone in need. He is preceded in death by his mother, Beverly J. Christy and aunt Loralei Doell. Ron is survived by his wife, Virginia (Chick) Christy of the home, his son, Sean Christy of St. Louis, Missouri; his daughter, Carrie Christy of New York, and his father, David M. and wife Sharon Christy of Leawood, Kansas. He will be deeply missed. The family wishes to thank the staff of Kansas City Hospice House for their care and compassion. Memorial contributions may be made to Kansas City Hospice House, 12000 Wornall Road, KCMO 64145. Visitation will be at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Floral Hills Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 2, at 1 p.m., with a celebration of his life at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in the Floral Hill Memorial Gardens. Arrangements: D.W. Newcomer's Sons Floral Hills Chapel, 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd., KCMO 64133 / (816) 353-1218.

You are in my prayers during this sad time. Ron and I had many great times together as school boys in Raytown. He did indeed have a great sense of humor and will live on in all of our memories. Chick, Sean & Carrie: I always thought Ron would probably outlive all of us because he was a survivor - total shock. I'll always remember the many good times we had in high school, playing sports, fishing, and watching the Chiefs. Ron was always there with laughs and a good friend. So sorry for your loss! God Bless.

Sean and family,
We are so sorry for your loss, a father is very hard to lose so young, but we know our life on earth is very short. Isn't is wonderful to know our "Eternity" with them will be wonderful. Carrie, I don't know what it is like to lose a spouse but I know how my mom suffered when my dad died, it was her best friend and companion, my heart goes out to you. May God give you comfort and surround you with love.

Ron and I were childhood friends in the 1950's when we lived across the street from each other. Although we only knew each for a few years I was very sad when he moved away as he was my best friend. I lost track of Ron over the years and am saddened to hear of his passing. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

My prayers are with you. I remember Ron well. He had such a sense of humor. He, my uncle (Rick Lowderman), and Jim Stillwell used to tease my brother and sister and I so much. He was a great guy. Peace be with you at this time of sorrow.

To Ron's Family

The Tom Jordan family would like to extend our deepest sympathies to you at this difficult time. I have memories of Ron being in my life as far back as I can remember. All of these memories include laughing at his special sense of humor. Dad and I always had such a great time when we were all 3 together. I also have memories of him as one of my biggest fans when I was a high-school and college athlete. His interest always made me feel so good. You can be sure that Heaven is a much funnier place today. God bless Ron's family.

With out Ron's help and generosity, my business would never have been able to get off the ground. He was willing to take a chance and work with me in a situation where most people would not. I owe Ron and his family a lot of gratitude. Its with deep saddness I write this wondering why god takes those around us who are such good people. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

At the Hyatt time...as then an orthopedic nurse at Trinity Lutheran and Truman Medical, we met in the middle of the night more than several times, mostly to give you medicine to ease your broiken bones but also to talk about life, and death, and survival, and guiding lights alone the path of life. so, your face has stayed with me all these years now and though I had lost your name to my aging neurons, i dont forget those hour long conversatuons we had at two in the morning... truly ships passing in the night. God's speed, Ron. God's speed!
