Rose McDonnell Obituary

Rose Allison McDonnell, 86, of Fairway, KS, passed away Sunday, March 28, 2004, at her home. Funeral services will be held at the G.H. Combs Chapel of Country Club Christian Church, 6101 Ward Pkwy., on Friday, April 2, 2004, at 11 a.m. with burial to follow at Forest Hill/Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday evening at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Overland Park Chapel, 8201 Metcalf. Memorial contributions may be made to the church. Rose, the daughter of Karl and Rose McVey, was born on June 23, 1917, in Kansas City, MO. She graduated from Southwest High School and later graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree in English. On November 8, 1941, Rose was united in marriage to John F. McDonnell, Jr., at St. Elizabeth's Church in Kansas City, MO. She was a member of Mu Phi Epsilon, Gamma Phi Beta and the Kansas City Philharmonic League. Rose had a lifelong interest in music and enjoyed growing plants. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary, and her sister, Betty Vincent. Survivors include her husband, Dr. John F. McDonnell, Jr., of Overland Park; her children, Mary Linda of Prairie Village, KS, John F., III, of Gladstone, MO, Thomas K. of Independence, MO, Richard W. of Peoria, IL, and Anne E. Musson of White River Junction, VT; eight grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; her sister, Mary Newcomer of Prairie Village, KS; and many other friends and relatives. (Arrangements: D.W.
