Shannon Manning Obituary

Shannon L. Manning
May 3, 2022
Lenexa, Kansas - Shannon L. Manning, 88, passed away on Tuesday, May 3, 2022. He was born April 11, 1934, in Posey County, Indiana to Charles and Arleta Manning. He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving on the destroyer, USS Eversole.
Shannon attended John Herron School of Art and Design in Indianapolis, and upon graduation Shannon was employed as a commercial artist by a large design studio in Chicago. He was then recruited by Hallmark Cards where he contributed creatively for 30 years. While Shannon enjoyed many professional accomplishments, he was most recognized as the designer of the original Kansas City Royals Baseball Team Emblem.
Shannon was a member of the Greater KC Artist Association, KC Art Directors Club, Junior JC's, Buena Vista Monday Portrait Group, the Tin Can Sailors, and featured in the Kansas City Royals Baseball Hall of Fame.
Shannon always put his family first, never missing little league games, music concerts, debate tournaments, school plays, or other milestones for his children and grandchildren. In his retirement, Shannon especially enjoyed traveling and attending a variety of art events with the love of his life and favorite person, Judy.
Shannon was preceded in death by his parents and brother Milton Manning.
Shannon is survived by his wife of 62 years, Judy Manning, two daughters Sherry (Bradley) Davidson, Nancy (Brian) Smith, two grandsons Dane Smith, Rory Smith and extended family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, in Shannon's honor, participate in world peace.
Private graveside services for immediate family members will be held on May 9, at Resurrection Cemetery, Lenexa, KS. A Celebration of Life for Shannon's friends and family will be held at a later date.
Quote:
"I'm a creative artist who is dedicated to the concept that art should enrich the lives of its viewers."

I want to offer my deepest sympathies to Judy and Shannon's family. After retirement from Hallmark, Shannon and Judy would frequently visit the art supply store within Hallmark. They were both a delight to see and assist. Shannon always had very positive and encouraging things to say and was always funny. His family members came up in nearly all conversations. The love and devotion between Shannon and Judy was very evident. 62 years of marriage is quite a testimony! Prayers for Judy and the rest of the family. I know Shannon will be greatly missed.
