Thelma Reed Obituary

Thelma Alice Reed, 92, of Kansas City, Kan., passed away peacefully June 8, 2008, at Shawnee Gardens. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 11, at Maple Hill Funeral Home. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the Emerson Park Christian Church. Thelma was born March 29, 1916, in Carthage, Mo., to Christopher and Blanch Combs. Thelma was united in marriage to Joe B. Reed on May 16, 1937, in Olathe, Kan., and recently celebrated their 71st anniversary. Thelma is survived by her loving husband, Joe; son, Glen Reed and his wife Virginia, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and daughter, Judy Sullivan and her husband Jack of Kansas City, Kan. She was affectionately known as Nana by her five grandchildren, Dan Reed, Kim Meyn, Connie Bray, Susan Devaney, and John Sullivan; eight great-grandchildren, Dustin and Lindsay Bray, Kristin Meyer and husband Brandon, Megan and Dexter Devaney and Zach, Katie and Nick Sullivan. Thelma was a long time member of the Emerson Park Christian Church. Thelma and Joe resided in the Kansas City, Kan., area throughout their marriage. Thelma's career was her family. She was a past PTA president of Park Grade School, a member of the Ladies Auxiliary, Unit 90 and the XYZ group. Thelma enjoyed Ballroom dancing, traveling, cooking and entertaining with family and friends.
