Wayne VanAcker Obituary

WAYNE HENRY VAN ACKER
Born: December 16, 1939 in Elgin, Ill.
Died: December 18, 2023 in DeKalb, Ill.
Wayne Henry Van Acker, 84, of Sycamore, Ill., formerly of Elburn, passed away Monday, Dec. 18, 2023, at Kishwaukee Hospital, DeKalb.
Born Dec. 16, 1939, in Elgin, the son of Henry and Frances (Rau) Van Acker, Wayne married Judith Ann Rowe on May 5, 1962, in St. Laurence Catholic Church in Elgin.
A veteran of the US Army, having been inducted in April 1963, Wayne was honorably discharged in March 1969, in St. Louis, Mo. He owned and operated Van Acker Sand & Gravel construction company in St. Charles for almost 50 years. He was a graduate of St. Edward Central Catholic High School. The couple were season ticket holders for the Kane County Cougars. Wayne loved Merkts port wine cheese and Ritz crackers, enjoyed cooking and baking and giving food away, traveling and gardening and doing word search puzzles, collecting die cast metal, especially anything related to machinery. He was a fan of all sports, especially the Bears, Bulls and Hawks, and watching old Westerns. Wayne's "larger-than-life" personality, magnetic energy and phenomenal smile always made a lasting impression on anyone in his life.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Judy; children, Kathy (Rand) Roggenbuck of New Hampshire, Andy Van Acker of Illinois, Michelle Hodges of Iowa, Christine (Ed) Beldowicz of Georgia, Tony (Sue) Van Acker of Iowa and Liz (Ben) Harris of Oklahoma; grandchildren, Rene, Ryan, Benjamin, Olivia, Anna, Nathan, Hank, Mimi, Cindy, Joe, Thomas, Eva, Jack and Abby; and sister, Sister Alyce Ann Van Acker.
He was predeceased by his parents; son-in-law, Frank Hodges; and siblings, Art Van Acker, Ruth Nunley and Dorothy Van Acker.
Memorials can be made in his name to The Church of St. Mary.
Funeral Mass will begin at 10:30 am Friday, Dec. 29, 2023, at the Church of St. Mary, 244 Waterman St., Sycamore, IL 60178. Visitation will be at the church from 9:30 to 10:30 prior to the service and from 4-7 pm Thursday, Dec. 28, at Olson's Quiram Sycamore Chapel, 1245 Somonauk St., Sycamore, IL 60178.
