David Allen Schmidt

David Allen Schmidt, 70, of Harrisburg, SD died on February 9, 2025, at Ava's House in Sioux Falls, SD. He passed after a brief fight with cancer.
Honoring his wishes, there will not be a memorial service.
David was born in Parkston, SD on September 10, 1954, to Leo and Adella (Hohn) Schmidt. He attended Sacred Heart Grade School and graduated from Parkston High School in 1973. He graduated from USD/Springfield, SD. He worked for Marriott for 17 years as a manager in the Food Service Department.
In 1991, David married Mersedh Shahrazad. They welcomed a daughter, Nikki, in 1993. She was the light of his life! He had many nicknames for her; sugar, honey and snickers were all some of the sweet names he called her.
After leaving Marriott David started his own business Schmidty's Delivery, on the West Coast. Unfortunately, he was forced to shut down due to Covid. Shortly after that he moved back to his home in South Dakota. He lived in Mitchell and Mobridge, so he could fish. His diagnosis of cancer brought him back to family in the Sioux Falls area.
David loved hunting, playing cards, watching baseball and umpiring little league baseball and the Huskies.
David is survived by his daughter, Nikki Schmidt of Seattle, WA; Brother, Bob Schmidt (Linda) of Ft. Mohave, AZ; Sisters, Carol Wilant (Mark) of Appleton, WI, Connie Gallup Allen (Dan) of Barrington, IL, Diane Duvall, of Ft. Collins, CO, Janet Sedlacek (Mel) of Yankton, SD, Valerie Schmidt, of Harrisburg, SD; Sister in law, Kris Schmidt of Mitchell, SD many niece and nephews and cousins.
David is preceded in death by his parents; Brothers, Tom and Tim "Rubes" Schmidt and step father, Edmund Heibel.
All memorials will be donated to Ava's House. For their excellent care of David and our family.
