Susan O'Day Obituary

Susan M. Dyke O'Day

September 27, 1939 - April 27, 2025

Susan M. Dyke O'Day, 85, passed away unexpectedly on April 27, 2025.

She was at home with her beloved husband of 31 years, John O'Day.

Susan was born on September 27th, 1939, in Duluth, Minn., the daughter of a Lutheran minister. Eventually, the family settled in Chicago where she graduated from Senn High School. She later attended Augustana College and started a family shortly thereafter.

Eventually Susan settled in Kenosha, Wis., where she quickly became involved with Trinity Lutheran Church. Although Susan had many talents and vocations, she spent most of her working life in real estate where she had a notable career.

In 1980, Susan met her beloved John and so began what was to become a wonderful, blended family after she and John wed in January 1994.

Susan was a woman of many loves: her husband John, her family, her friends, her church, her community, and the family cabin in northern Minnesota. Susan lived for each day and never failed to have plans for the days ahead. She will be dearly missed.

Susan is survived by her husband, John O'Day; and their blended family: Jan (Paula Kates) Dyke, Craig (Cheri') Dyke, Kristin (Robert) Walsh, Kelly O'Day, Shawn (Katherine) O'Day, Stacey O'Day, and Ryan (Jamie) O'Day. In addition, Susan is survived by Steven (Christine) Dyke; and numerous other grandchildren and great-grandchildren, by order of age: Madeline, Gustav, Kelley, Josephine, Landon, Isabelle, Charlie, Brayden, Wesley, and Thorin.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Eric (Violet) Gustavson, and her brother, Rev. Eric Gustavson, Jr.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at 11 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church in Kenosha, 7104-39th Avenue.

Visitation with the family will be on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at the church from 9 a.m., until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Trinity Lutheran Church Mortgage Reduction Fund or to the charity of one's choice would be appreciated.

She was always Mrs Dyke. Not "Sue or Susan". From when I first met her, when I was in 8th or 9th grade all the way though my first home purchase and beyond. She was my best friends' mom and when I was in trouble at home, she was a second mom to me. All the crazy stuff she had to put up with. To Craig and the family, I am truly sorry for your loss. I'm sorry I was not there at the service to be with you all. Grieve but do not despair, she will always be remembered fondly and with love as Mrs Dyke. RIP

Sue had a heart of gold! She and John bought/sold houses for us. We still have the carousel music box she gave us as a housewarming gift some 35 years ago. She made everyone feel welcome and special whenever and wherever you´d see her. So much love to John and the whole family. She will be missed.
