Adrian Sparks Obituary

Adrian Sparks
July 5, 1935 - July 31, 2022
Lexington, Kentucky - Adrian Sparks, 87, husband of Mavis C. Sparks for 60 years, died peacefully at home in the early morning of July 31, 2022. He was delivered to Adron and Alice Reed Sparks at Warbranch, Kentucky, by frontier nurses. His parents; brothers Mark, Luke, and Charlie Sparks and sister Hazel Sparks Hackworth preceded him in death.
Surviving are his wife Mavis Curry Sparks and children Terrie (Michael) Johnson, Deborah Sparks Harmon, Alice (Kurt) Schaefer, and John (Ellen Brady) Sparks. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He leaves behind special cousins, nephews friends, in laws, and neighbors. He was a family man and people person.
A graduate of Cumberland High School and the University of Kentucky, Adrian found his way into residential construction and remodeling while working for Ball Homes. Using that experience he went into business for himself, building houses in various subdivisions, including Dogwood Trace, Firebrook, and The Colony.
He pursued a variety of interests: fished in Florida, hunted bear in Alaska and deer and elk in Colorado. He earned a private pilot's license, read western paperbacks, researched the civil war, and watched the Youtube channel. He loved 60's music, Johnny Cash, Merl Haggard, and Patsy Cline. He belonged to the Robert M. Sirkle Lodge, the Oleika Temple, and Rosemont Baptist Church.
Visitation: 10:30 am, August 4, 2022 at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home-Harrodsburg Road. Funeral service: 12:30 in the Kerr Brothers chapel.
Burial: 1:30 Bluegrass Memorial Gardens, Harrodsburg Road.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass.

I am so sorry for your loss. Adrian was my Sunday School teacher back at Cumberland Missionary Baptist Church for one year. And I have know Debbie while a membe here in Lexington at Rosemont. I am sure he will be missed, deeply. I wasn't able too attend the visitation or funeral due to a family emergency in Henderson, KY. I will try to find out through the Harmon family where I can make a donation.

Growing up on Cardinal Lane, there were many fun times at the Sparks´ home. I remember Mr. Sparks sitting in his living room recliner, and greeting me as I came through the front door. I could always count on him to share words of wisdom in a funny phrase or two. Debbie, Terrie, and Mavis- my thoughts and prayers are with you and all of your family.

I did some sub-contract work for Mr. Sparks, a long time ago. He was always a real gentleman to deal with and it was a pleasure working for him. I'm sure he will be missed. May the God of all comfort sustain you all in this time of bereavement.

Hate to hear of Adrian´s passing. We were business associates for many years dating back to the 70´s. Adrian was always a joy and pleasure to be around. My condolences to all his family
