M.C. Colliver Jr.

FLEMINGSBURG - M.C. Colliver Jr, 87, Poplar Plains, KY, died peacefully Wed, May 28, 2008 at 2pm in the Hospice Unit of Fleming County Hospital. Mr. Colliver was the founder of Colliver Furniture, Poplar Plains, and was well known in the tobacco industry as a tobacco farmer and warehouseman. Throughout his life, Mr. Colliver was an avid fisherman, and an acclaimed spoons player. He took pride in being a Kentucky Colonel and was a member of the Poplar Plains United Methodist Church. He was born May 9, 1921 on the same farm he lived his entire life. His parents were the late Garr and Jennie (Lola Virginia McLain) Colliver. Mr. Colliver was married to his first wife, Mary Elizabeth Craft Colliver for 58 years till her death in 1996. Survivors are wife, Jo Ann Wyatt Applegate Colliver, Poplar Plains, KY; children, Billy Garr (Betty Jo) Colliver, Poplar Plains, KY, Patti Ann (Rev. Douglass) Gilbert, Greensboro, NC, David Allen (Mary Claire) Colliver, Lexington, KY, McGuire Conway "Mac" (Cheryl Dee) Colliver, Nicholasville; 6 grandchildren, Cynthia Hunter (Dr. Thomas C.) Pearson, Elizabeth Stewart (Dr. Patrick) Cronin, Kelly Renee Colliver, Melissa David (James McPhillips) Fernandez, Kathleen McClain Colliver, and Carey McGuire Colliver; 4 great grandchildren, William Thomas Pearson, Logan Charles Pearson, Aidan Patrick Cronin-Hudgins and David Paul Fugate; 2 nieces Elaine Lee Craft and Polly Nash (David Kirk) Gunby III; 3 step-children, Stephen Mason (Jill) Applegate, Donald Kevin (Tanya) Applegate, and Diane Lyn (Terry) Popp; step-grandchildren, McKenzie Alexandria Applegate, Kendall Madison Applegate, Alyssa Nicole Applegate, Matthew Taylor Applegate, Alexandra Leigh Applegate, Julian Nicholas Fodor Applegate, Jonathan Gregory (Tiffany Brooke) Popp, Eliza Towsend Gilbert. Preceded in death by a sister, Mary Frances Philpot. Funeral services will be 1pm Sat at the Boone-Nickell Funeral Home with Mac Colliver officiating. Burial in the Fleming County Cemetery. Visitation at Boone-Nickell Funeral Home from 5-8pm Fri. Mr. Colliver's request was for memorials to be made to the Wallingford United Methodist Church, 7071 Wallingford Rd, Flemingsburg, KY 41041. Pallbearers will be Patrick Cronin, Tom Pearson, Carey Colliver, Steven Applegate, Kevin Applegate, Will Pearson, Logan Pearson, David Paul Fugate, Aidan Cronin-Hudgins, and James Fernandez.
