I met Michael in 1982, when we were journalists covering the Falkland Islands War from Buenos Aires, Argentina. He was a terrific reporter and a very fine person. He will be missed.

My deepest condolences to Mike's family n many friends. We were in the same class all through school n I knew his extended family well. He was a great friend to all of us n a very special person who will be dearly missed. Very sad loss at way too young.

When I was a student at the University of Kentucky during the late 80s and early 90s, I met some friends who had nothing to do with my two separate lives as a student and convenience store clerk. Michael was one of those friends; a fellow who was as interesting as anyone I ever became acquainted with. He was working with WKQQ when it occupied the 88.1 spot on the FM dial. Michael was in charge of the news and various features Double Q would present throughout its broadcast day. We weren't the closest of friends, but we could get some really good conversations going, and that's something I've always lived for. While I was in Lexington, I knew when I saw him, I could always say hello, or sit and chat over a beer or two on the patio of one of the local bars. I found his obituary in the Lexington Herald today. He died too soon at the age of 62. He was one of those people who could go out and make a name for themselves, and who would stay in the memory of anyone with whom he became friends. My condolences to his friends and his family. My hat's off to one of the most unique individuals I ever knew.

Too many memories to share, but thank you for the empathy, compassion and grace you exhibited to the downtrodden and disfavored people all over the world. An example worthy of imitation, in that respect. Rest in peace, my friend.
