Patsey Madden Obituary

Patsey Field Madden
June 3, 1931 - January 11, 2022
Richmond, Kentucky - Patsey Field Harney Madden, 90, widow of Leonard James Madden, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, January 11, 2022. She was preceded in death by her longtime friend, partner and confidant Harold Kenneth McCay.
Patsey or Pat as she was known by her friends and family was born on June 3, 1931 in Lexington, Kentucky and resided in Richmond, Kentucky. She was the daughter of the late Clarence W. and Elizabeth Hume Harney. She graduated from Model High school in 1949, and attended Duke University, where she became a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. Pat transferred to the University of Kentucky in 1951 and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts and English in 1953. She pursued a brief teaching career in Florida before returning to UK to complete her Master's Degree in Education. She continued her career as a teacher and educator with various positions in Lexington, Kentucky, Sarasota, Florida and eventually settling in Louisville, Kentucky where she taught on television and in the classrooms of the Louisville area.
She enjoyed reading, puzzle games, family gatherings, travel, following Kentucky football and basketball, her many pets over the years and she especially loved her home and yard on Lancaster Avenue which had been built by her great grandfather in 1862. She was a member of The Colonial Dames Society, The Daughters of the American Revolution, and a charter member of the Society of Boonesborough. She was a descendent of the families that settled Richmond and Madison County. Those families included Estill, Field, Irvine, Hume and Miller. Often times throughout her lifetime she was called upon by civic leaders for historical knowledge regarding the history of Richmond and Madison County. She was a member of The First Presbyterian Church.
Patsey is survived by her son James Patrick and his wife Carol Madden of Lexington, Kentucky. Funeral services will be held at 1:00PM on Monday January 17, 2022 at Oldham, Roberts, and Powell Funeral Home with Dr. Curtis Christian officiating. Burial will follow at the Richmond Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00AM to 1:00PM on Monday at the funeral home.
Serving as Pallbearers are Bob Elder, Addison Palmore, Selby Wiggins, Craig Dundon, Patrick Stipes, George Karambellas, Clay S. Robinson, Michael Baker, Jeff Londene, Shaleum Fields, and Kyle Fields.
Jim and Carol want to thank the staff of Visiting Angels in Richmond, Kentucky, Morning Pointe East in Lexington, Kentucky and countless others who made Patsey's life comfortable in her final years. We especially want to thank and make special mention to Mrs. Cynthia Ballard of Richmond, Kentucky. She was a true friend to mom and meant so much to her the last years of her life. They shared a great friendship and a friendship of God's love, grace and charity. Many thanks.
