James Morris "Jim" Howell Jr.

James "Jim" Morris Howell, Jr. September 2, 1942 - April 10, 2025 James (Jim) Morris Howell, Jr., beloved husband, stepdad, Papa, brother, uncle and friend died peacefully in his home. Jim was born in San Francisco, CA to James M. Howell, Sr, and Lora Neta (Ray) Howell. Jim worked for a number of companies during his life. He retired from the Sheriff's office where he worked as the Emergency Management Coordinator for Linn County. Jim had many interests. When he was 14 years old, he joined the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) as a Cadet. Lieutenant Colonel Howell was a member for the rest of his life, serving in many positions. He especially loved working with cadets. Most recently Jim became a volunteer for Make-A-Wish. He and his wife, Phyllis often worked together with children and their families to help Wishes come true. In recent weeks several former CAP cadets contacted Jim thanking him for being a mentor in their lives. He was very proud of "his" cadets. Jim loved humor, was kind, believed in treating everyone equally, and was a reader of sci-fi. He dearly loved his family. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Lind, step children Julie Hawley (Nick), Stacey Nofziger, and Debra Nofziger, stepgrandson Zachary Nofziger, brother William Howell, sister Sandra Bloger (Steve), nephew Jeff Howell (Hannah), nieces Vicky Regan and Amy Walters (Kevin), grandnephews Jake Bloker, Owen Walters, and grandniece Lora Jane Walters.
