Dear Laurel and Family,
I was so surprised to hear of Sara's death. I've known yuur mom for 20 years and we have had some good times. Not only was she a good person, but she also had a big heart. I remember the time when she was taking care of your grandmother and never seemed to complain. Losing a loved one is a loss that only time heals. I say this because for the last month and a half I have been dealing with my own mother's final days, her death, the funeral and the emptiness which comes after it is over and you still feel her presence, and then it dawns on you that she is no longer here. But we can both be comforted by knowing that our mothers are with God and we WILL see them again one day. Prayerfully, Jan Smith

Laurel,
Your Mother was a true southern lady. She was the best optician ever and served my family for 20+ years. My Mother would not go anywhere else to be fitted for glasses. It had to be Sara. Her professionalism was always so genuine. At every visit she would always mention you when you were growing up and then she would talk about your family. She was very proud of you. May happy memories carry you through this time.

Sincerely, Susie Holland Pearson

On behalf of the Grainger High School Class of 1963, I wish to express our heart-felt sympathy in the loss of Sara Hamilton Best. Her name said it all--she was the best. We have all grown closer after our 47th reunion, of which Sara played a great part. She was on our planning committee and was always there willing to do anything she could for our school class. We all will be better people for knowing Sara. May the Lord comfort you in this sad time.

Dear Laurel and Family, Memories of your Mama and her family are eternally a part of my family's holiday tradition. Growing up in Kinston my mother would buy one of Mrs. Hamilton's incomparable fresh cocoanut cakes every Thanksgiving and Christmas. They would be our very special holiday breakfast treat and dessert. My family and I left Kinston in 1965. There has never been a Thanksgiving or Christmas since then that we all don't speak of and miss Mrs. Hamilton's fresh cocoanut cake. At our 35th high school reunion, your Mama made a cake for me. That's who Sara was. Nothing but goodness and generosity. In all the years, I only knew Sara to be kind and thoughtful. This world was lucky to have her, and I was lucky to know her. Blessings to you and all of your family. Julie Jones
