Elizabeth Jones Obituary

Elizabeth "Lib" Jones

Knoxville - Elizabeth "Lib" Farmer Jones, loving mother, and dear friend, died peacefully at home on December 31, 2020. She was born in Lewes, Delaware on June 3, 1937 to Katharine and Robert Farmer, who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death was her husband, Dr. Francis S. Jones and sister, Anne Myers.

Shortly after her birth, Lib moved with her parents and siblings to Newport, Tennessee. There she studied piano, volunteered at the local hospital, and attended Cocke County High School, where she played clarinet in the marching band.

Throughout her life, Lib wore many hats. She began her college studies at the University of Tennessee, transferring to the University of Virginia, and then returning to the University of Tennessee where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology. She was an accomplished classical pianist and a member of the Knoxville Duet Club for over thirty years. In 1980, Lib returned to school, obtaining a degree in Construction Engineering from Pellissippi State Community College. From 1981 until her retirement in 1987, Lib was a general contractor and owner of Jones Construction, Inc. in Knoxville, Tennessee. She was a member of the Home Builder's Association and former president of the Remodeler's Council. For many years she was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the choir. In between earning degrees, work, and raising her family, Lib obtained a pilot's license, raised, trained, and showed English Mastiffs, briefly facilitated the Mastiff Rescue of East Tennessee, and painted.

Lib will be remembered by many of her friends for her avid love of gardening (and she had quite a green thumb) and her beautiful wildflower gardens and her many caroling and chili parties during the Christmas Holidays.

Lib is survived by her children, Lucy Anne Jones Mark Moran (Wes) and Clifford Farmer Miller (Pam); stepson, Dr. Ted W. Jones (Lou), and grandchildren, Katharine and Joshua Mark, and Jamie, Christian, Carla, Richard Miller, Kevin Jones (Michelle) and Brian Jones (Katie). She also leaves behind her brother, Robert Farmer, Jr.; brother-in-law, Harold Myers; niece, Connie and nephews, Michael, Russell, Robert Myers, Brian and Alan Farmer.

Lib requested that in the future when all can come together without six feet distance between, there be a celebration of life, where friends and family can come together, walk in her gardens and rejoice a life full of accomplishments and the love she shared with all. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lib's memory to the Humane Society of the Tennessee Valley(this is a NO KILL shelter), P.O. Box 51723, Knoxville, TN 37950 or the ASPCA, PO Box 96929, Washington, DC 20090-6929(www.aspca.org). Arrangements by Cremation Options, Inc. (865)6WE-CARE (693-2273) www.cremationoptionsinc.com.

I am so sad to hear about Lib's passing.
I spent many afternoons cleaning her home, working in her flower gardens & helping take care of all of the indoor plants she loved. I snuck a photo of her one day. We had the best time. I enjoyed her. We had some of the sweetest conversations while driving to doctor appointments. She was my confidant when I needed to talk about my mother's illness and family matters.
I will always remember her gourmet cooking and she made the most tasty gazpacho in the summertime with fresh tomatoes. She loved her dogs and it was obvious they loved her too. ❤
I remember Beau grabbed her white shirt and ran outside with it, she asked me if I could step outside to get it. I ran out after him & it was actually a game of chase as he got the shirt muddy & wet. Lib was standing in the doorway cracking up at the hilarious show. I eventually got the shirt from him after slipping a few times in the yard with mud on my shoes and pants. I loved Lib, she was so good to me.
On rainy days Lib would say, "You have to make your own sunshine sometimes. This is a quote that reminds me of her and will forever live in my heart. ❤

It was with such sadness that I heard about Lib's passing. Thanks to Lib, I was part of Duet Club and she was an amazing pianist and wonderful friend. My thoughts go to Lib's family at such a sad and difficult time.

So sorry for your loss.
Lib was a great friend and mentor to me for many years early in my career in the construction business.
