Steve and I used to have lunch together every Thursday. He was Jewish, Democrat, U of L fan. I am Christian, Republican, U of K fan. We agreed only on the fact that both of us were conservative fiscally!! We often discussed religion, politics, and sports---almost never agreeing on anything, but always willing to listen to the other point of view---and even occasionally learning something from the other. I loved Steve, and still miss him. The world was a better place when he was alive---even though he was wrong most of the time!!!

It is hard to believe it has been 9 years since Steve passed. I still miss him and the lunches we enjoyed together. We would have had some very interesting conversations about the state of the country during these 9 years!!! I miss you, my friend!! Mike Harris

Steve was one of the few genuinely GOOD people I have known. We used to have lunch together once a week, every week. Steve was politically liberal, Jewish, and a U of L fan; I was politically conservative, Christian, and a U of KY fan. We constantly talked politics, religion, and sports---rarely agreed on anything (except when we talked fiscal issues--we were both conservative on that), but NEVER disparaged each other or our ideas, and NEVER got angry with each other. I learned a lot from Steve about Judiasm, how to love people, how to respect another point of view. He was one of my very best friends---and I miss him a lot. While he was alive he did far more than his part to make it a better world!!!!!!

Steve Auslander was the father of my college roommate, Sheila. Sheila was lucky to have such a father! As Sheila's friend, I benefited from his abundant humor and good fatherly advice. My life is the better for having known Sheila's dad, Steve. I will never forget his kindness, joy-filled humor, excellent social graces, the attitude of calm he brought to even trying tasks such as moving Sheila out of a college apartment, and last but not least, his charming southern accent.

As Dr. Steve always said to me as I departed his office, "Shalom!" He was a remarkable and humble man. Let us think about what he taught us. Shalom!

So very sorry to hear of your loss. Bardstown has lost a fine citizen and true gentleman.

Steve Auslander was one of the nicest people I have ever known. He was the "go to guy" for virtually any question all the way through school. Unfortunaely our lives didn't cross paths as often as we would have liked but whenever we met it was like we had only been apart a few days. His passing will leave a huge hole in the world. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.

I was Steve's volunteer helper for getting his "yacht" in and out of Taylorsville Lake, which was an adventure each time. He was a much better dentist than he was a ship's captain, but thoroughly enjoyable to be around even if you had to fish him out of the lake after slipping off the yacht. Hope to meet up with my Jewish buddy in an afterlife. Shalom aleikhem, Steve. Joe Dickerson

Every time I smile, I am quickly reminded of Dr. Steve's impact on my life. Since I was a small child, until my early twenties I was fortunate to be one of Dr. Steve's patients, & it was during those years that I grew to know his kindness, generosity, compassion & his penchant for silly jokes. He truly was an extraordinary man, whom I admired very much. No doubt, Dr. Steve made this world a better place. I will miss him, but will be forever grateful for the gift of my smile & appreciation for silly jokes. Rest in peace Dr. Auslander.

I have known Steve since the 1960's, one of my dearest friends. We shared many life experiences together. I don't know of a kinder, more generous, more well-liked person. If you could judge a man by his friendships, he would be KING! He had a joke for every occasion. The world was made better because of his tireless volunteering for which he never asked credit. It was my honor to have had him as a friend and will miss him forever.
