Lloyd C. Johnston
VIROQUA - Lloyd C. Johnston, age 95, of Viroqua, WI, passed away on Sunday, November 5, 2023 at Soldiers Grove Health Services in Soldiers Grove, WI. Lloyd was born on June 25, 1928, to Mable (Anderson) and Wilbert Johnston in Chicago, IL. He was raised on his grandparents' farm in Wallace, MI, until he was nine years old. It was there he developed his love for the country. He then moved to Chicago near Wrigley Field and became a lifelong Cub fan. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the U. S. Army and was deployed to Germany in 1946. He married Lucille (Glueckert) in 1950 and they had four daughters: Anita, Susan, Marlene, and Louise. They were married for 69 years until Lucille's death in 2019. Lloyd worked as a printer for many years in Chicago. He also worked for the local school district doing maintenance and printing. His supervisor once wrote, "Lloyd had a wonderful way of working with coworkers, faculty, staff members and students and was well liked by his fellow workers. Men like Lloyd are hard to find."
In 1982, Lloyd and Lucille moved from Chicago and built their home in Viroqua. Lloyd was a dedicated employee of the Viroqua area school district until his retirement in 1992. He loved working with the students and staff.
Lloyd was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and loyal friend. He supported family and friends by being present at their events and activities and gave them encouragement and praise. He was always willing to help others and will be remembered by his positive attitude, sense of humor, huge heart, and big smile.
He is survived by his loving daughters: Anita (Rich Santi) Johnston, Susan (Tom) Mazer, Louise (Mark) Staszczak; grandchildren: Theresa (Ralph) Bonfifazi, Brian (Agnes) Burton, Larry (Ashley) Burton, Brad Mazer, Jeff (Emma) Mazer, Laura Mazer, Jackie (Jackie) Staszczak-Flavio, and Kevin (Lauren) Staszczak; and great-grandchildren: Ryan, Julianna, Cole, Tyler B., Caleb, Theo, Tyler S., and Nora.
