Elinor R. Wimmer

1931 - 2023

Our beloved mother, Elinor R. Wimmer passed away on October 4, 2023. Born on April 14, 1931 in Lowell, Massachusetts to John and Margaret Reilly, Elinor was the fifth of six children in the Reilly clan. Elinor graduated from Emmanuel College, Boston with a degree in Chemistry. In 1954 working in a nuclear lab as a civilian for the U. S. Air Force, she met Lieutenant Robert E. Wimmer, and they married in 1955 at St. Rita's Catholic Church and soon thereafter moved to sunny California. Bob and Elinor celebrated fifty-nine years of marriage before his untimely death in 2014. Elinor is survived by her loving family, children Patricia (Greg) Schaefer, Warren (Kathy) Wimmer, Anne Wimmer and Susan (Mark) Grossman. She was SO proud of her grandchildren, Daniel (Kristin) Schaefer, Megan (Shawdon) Grossman, Jan Wimmer, Tommy Wimmer and Matthew (Rachel) Grossman. Elinor's love of family included in-laws, nieces and nephews as well as her cherished great-grandchildren, Wesley Robert Schaefer and Hazel Elinor Schaefer. Elinor was a spirited member of the community having served as a PTA President, teacher's aide, banjo player and song leader of Hootenannys, duplicate bridge champion, a square dance "Angel", longtime Altar Society member, Senior Club leader at her church and dear friend to many. Elinor never hesitated to note how blessed she was with wonderful friends and family.A funeral Mass for Elinor will be held Friday, October 27 at 2pm, at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church in Canoga Park, where she was an active parishioner for over sixty years. Our family misses Mom tremendously, but we are comforted knowing that she has reunited with Dad and they are Square Dancing, and in between "tips", she's updating him on everything that has gone on the last nine years.
