James Mergen Obituary

JAMES F. MERGEN Born June 10, 1929 in Bloomington, Wisconsin. Went to Heaven, peacefully, on October 9, 2004. A resident of Sylmar. President of his Senior Class, at Fennimore (Wisconsin) High School, Jim went on to the Uni versity of Iowa, majoring in Broadcasting/ Communications. He met his true love, Nancy Baker, while working at radio station "KOLD" in Yuma, Arizona. He made his career in radio, having worked in advertising sales for local stations KLAC, KIIS, and KGIL. Later, becoming General Manager at KGIL under the format of "Ballads, Blues, and Big Bands, too". Before retirement, he was a station broker for Stanfield and Associates. Music was his passion. Jim was undoubtedly Sinatra's #1 Fan. He also enjoyed rubbing elbows with the likes of Count Basie, Mel Torme, and Lena Horne. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Lula; and his love, Nancy. The eldest of five children, his remaining siblings include brothers Dave and Dick, and sisters Mary and Kay, all of the Midwest. He will be greatly missed by his six children: sons, Chris Mergen (Alice), Pat Mergen (Sue), Mike Mergen (Nance), and daughters, Mary De Monbrun, Leslie Mergen and Lisa Mergen. Jim was fondly known as "Papa" to eleven grandchil dren: Corey and Tim Mergen, Niki and Julian Papadopulos, Christina Mergen, Amy, James and Sara De Monbrun, and Kierin, Teagan and Allegra Mergen. Survivors also include brother-in-law, John Baker his wife Jan, and their son, Cullen; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, October 15, 2004, 1:00 p.m., at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 10800 Moorpark St., North Hollywood, California. A Celebration of Life Reception will follow from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m.
