Doris Wood Obituary

June 17th, 2023, Doris Ann Wood, 87yrs, of Beach Park ,IL passed away in her home surrounded by her loved ones. At 11:15 pm, the clouds lifted & the moon and stars ushered her to heaven where she joined her loved ones who have gone before her.

Doris was born on December 7th, 1935 to Ethel C. (Kalata) Iwan & Robert E. Irwin in Steubenville, Ohio.

Doris married Willis D. Wood in 1957 & to this Union, three very much loved children were born - Michael, James & Kathleen. They were married for 37 years until their divorce in 1995. Upon graduating high-school top of her class, she became a hairdresser & later on she worked as a school bus-driver in Lake County, IL at District #113 with the greatest group of co-workers and friends until her retirement in 2002.

Upon retiring, she loved having Saturday breakfast with "The Gang" & enjoyed activities with family/friends. When Doris wasn't at home, she was traveling to far off countries with her beloved soulmate/fiancee Joe Devanas, whom she had searched a lifetime for.

Doris was a loving Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, & Friend who loved all animals and supported many organizations like Best Friends, St. Jude, Humane Society, and The Humane Farming Association.

Doris was preceded in this journey by her Parents, her daughter Kathleen, many close relatives of both her family, the Wood Family & her many beloved pets.

Doris leaves behind her son Michael A. Wood, cherished grandchildren Sarah L. Belmont, Kimberly A. Wood, & Andrew J. Wood, & a very special, much loved & cherished great granddaughter, Rayann M. Wood.

Funeral Services will be private but a celebration of life will be announced. In lieu of flowers... Doris' favorite charities included Humane Society of Lake County ,IL., Best Friends, Humane Farming Association, Safe Harbor, & Tunnel to Towers Foundation.

Doris was our neighbor in Wildwood for years, Mike Jimmy and Kathy played with my children when the were younger - we drove bus together - good times - My prayers are with the Wood family - Rest in Peace Doris -
