Heather DeMaio Scott Chittum Obituary

Heather went to Heaven on March 28, 2016, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. She had a beautiful life as a daughter, a beloved wife, a mother, a grandmother, a sister and a good friend to all who knew her. Born on Sept 8, 1970 in Newton, MA, she was 45.
Heather grew up in Charleston, SC, Sacramento, CA and Lake City, FL. While attending school she played violin in the orchestra, took guitar lessons and sang in school talent shows. An avid reader, Heather particularly liked historical biographies. There was little she enjoyed more than nature watching and photographing wildlife, sketching, painting, and hiking, swimming and exploring the world with her family. She was a Master Gardener and a great cook.
Heather was a long-time barber at Plaza Barbers in Lake City and later, the very successful owner/operator of Main Street Barber Shop in Colebrook, NH. She had fond memories of Colebrook and her friends there.
Her family was the center of her life, and she was theirs, a strong beautiful woman with love in her heart and steel in her spine. She was our sunshine.
Survivors include: husband David Chittum, son Kyle Scott, daughters Savannah Chittum, Lauren "Ren" Scott Jones, grandson Westley Cox (and a granddaughter on the way), her parents: Sallie "Jean" DeMaio (Larry Brewer) & Philip DeMaio (Jeannie DeMaio), brother Mike "Tony" DeMaio, step sister Sandra Brewer Matthews, cousin Anne "Vicky" Melendez, uncle Ray DeMaio, mother-in-law Rose Mary Langston (Joe Thompson), brother-in-law Jesse Langston and numerous other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents: Dorothy & Anthony DeMaio (Newton, MA), Sallie Gardener Calvert Beal (Lake City, FL), and Kenneth Calvert, Jr., (Ft. Walton Beach, FL), uncle Kenneth "Buddy" Calvert (Lake City), step brother Louis Brewer (Battle Creek, MI), and aunt Shirley DeMaio (Colebrook, NH).
There will be a celebration of her life for family and friends to be scheduled in the near future.
In lieu of flowers, please consider honoring Heather's life with a donation to the Pediatric Cancer and Oncology Fund at Shands. Through all her trials, Heather always saw others who "Had it worse", particularly the kids fighting the same battle she was. This fund is everyday help for kids and their families: https://donate.giving.ufhealth.org/pediatric-cancer

Heather we miss you so much...I keep remembering your laugher and smile. I hang on to memories of us singing duet at church. Laughing at bible study, giggling in the back of the truck. You lit up everyone's lives and your family and friends will miss each day without you. I treasure your love that you shared with us all. Bless you angel and fly above us making way to heaven.
