Irene Romero Obituary
She was born in La Junta, Colo. to Juan A. and Julia Q. Medina.
Irene was raised in Las Vegas where she lived most of her life and also lived in La Loma with her longtime companion Lawrence Baca Jr. until his death in 2009. Irene then went to live with her daughter and her family in Rio Rancho.
She loved the flea markets, especially in Las Vegas, where she had many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her longtime companion Lawrence, her loving brother, Bobby Valverde and father of her daughters, Juaquin Romero.
She is survived by her son, George Griego III and Tammy; grandson, George IV; daughter, Antonia Martinez and husband Manuel; grandsons, Roy Juan, Manuel Jr. and granddaughter Melanie; daughter, Jackie and Eddy Moya; sister, Josephine and husband James Brasher and family; sister, Joan Romero and family of Albuquerque; sister, Dolores Valverde and family of Pueblo, Colo.; brother, Jose and wife Gloria Valverde and family of Denver, Colo., and the family of Bobby Valverde of Albuquerque.; in-laws include: Josie Sanchez, Kathy Salazar, Andrea Armijo, Margaret and Don Hogan, Ted and Erlinda Ortiz and Family, Bertha and Shannon Jamesen and family, Raymond and Eva Ortiz and family. Also special friend Rosie Root and father of her son, George Griego Jr. and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and compadres.
Cremation as taken place and services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 11 at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish at 1502 Sara Rd SE, Rio Rancho, NM. Interment will follow in Anton Chico at the San Jose Cemetery.
