I didn't know CPL. Leon well, but I was one of the army medics on that rooftop on June 20, 2006 I remember the guys stopping just as i ran out on the rooftop because i had only my aid bag and weapon, no helmet or anything. I held his hand, told him everything was going to be okay, and that all of his brothers were there with him. He squeezed my hand as he left us. I will never forget the sacrifice you made that day. You still live on through me! To his family my heart will always be with you.

It's amazing to realise that had he lived, this fine young American would only be 24 years old.He packed so much into the years that were granted to him and clearly he had a big impact on those with whom he served; one can only imagine what more he might have achieved. Sadly we will never know but I'm certain that he's left a wonderful legacy for those who follow in his footsteps of service to his Country. As those who love him approach this anniversary of his passing, I sincerely hope that they are comforted by time spent together, and, hopefully, by the many words left on this site - even by those of us who weren't fortunate enough to know Chris in his lifetime.
Rest in peace young man - you are remembered.

The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

During these past year or so I've read many of the stories on this site. As a Mother, my heart is saddened for those left behind but I'm also uplifted by the many wonderful ways in which people show their faith, courage, dedication to country and love for one another. While the memories of these young men and women are kept shining bright they will never be forgotten. They must be remembered and it's our duty to remember the price they paid for our tomorrows. Today it's my privilege to place my name in the pages honoring Corporal Christopher D. Leon. May you rest in peace Marine. God Bless your family, and your Country.

Dear Leon Family,
I did not know your son, but as the senior medic for the company that he was attached to it did not matter, we are all brothers at arms when we are called together. I was the first medic to respond and treat your son and stayed with him until I could get him to higher medical care. I can still see that day very clearly in my mind, and remember the details very well. Your son will always be with me, and I am truely sorry for your loss.

I don't pretend to know what to say or do that would bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON (KIA on 07/06/07) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

“Paid in Full”
To Honor The Service of Fallen and Injured Marines
Marines through and through, they paid the price
Six thousand miles away, we live the life
For which they paid with their blood, spirits and bodies
We will never forget what they paid in full
We hope and we pray that somehow their loved ones find comfort
In God, in the flag, in the memory of their loved ones’ bravery
They’re gone now but we see them still…proud, strong, willing
Covering each other’s backs… courageous, moving forward
What kind of love did they have for us to be willing
To give it all for the Black, White, Jew, Christian, Muslim?
We don’t comprehend but we honor you now and forever
You are Our Marines…some living…some not
Forever in our hearts we will cherish your lives
Lives too short yet immortal they’ll be
Highest brotherhood of the Few, the Proud
They stand at attention, and we gaze with awe
Some know their names not, but our admiration for them
Flows limitless within us, between us
They sacrificed their limbs or their lives
Freedom still rings, a soft sound across the miles
It tolls slowly; all of creation takes note
Of the lives that were lost for people unknown
Out of sight but not lost; forever among us
The starched blues marching straight
Toward the place where we will meet them
Many years from now…how we loved them…
Well done beloved Brothers and Sisters…You’ve paid it in full
Always Faithful Marines, You Have Paid it in Full

To the Leon family this Sgt Harris, I had the honor of receiving Chris and the rest of the Marines when they had gotten to Oki. I along with the other Sgt's trained and mentored the young Marines, he was a great asset to the Corps and will be greatly missed. His sacrafice has not gone unappreciated, as I run into old friends and tell them of his heroism they beam with pride, and feel safe that men like him defend this great country. As you know he was and will always be a great Marine. Semper Fidelis.

Hey, Chris. We met your Cpt, Adam, today. Really nice guy and it was so wonderful of him to come out and meet with all of us. He had only great things to say about you and he laughed when he thought of all the memories he had of you. It's my birthday today, too. Or un-birthday as I'm calling it. 3 months ago Anna and I were just starting to make plans to come Welcome you home September 17th in North Carolina. What a birthday present that was going to be! But instead we received you home on June 29. With honors, tears, love... and a flag-draped coffin. The tears, love and honors remain, but our hearts hurt so bad. We are so proud of all you accomplished in the Marines and love what an amazing young man you became. Gosh, there are so many things I want to talk to you about. After meeting so many men you served with and hearing of everything you achieved, I want so badly to listen to your stories. I want to give you a big hug and hear that laugh that I can hear in my memory every time I see pictures of your smiling face. Anna talks about you. She misses her Chris, and knows you're in heaven with God - she mentions this in her prayers. We are looking forward to meeting more of your "brothers" from ANGLICO. It gives us a chance to share a part of who you are. You are so loved and so missed; every moment of every day. I know you are where we are striving to be - with the Lord. Yet, it just wasn't supposed to be now.

He said that for that fact that they will always be around in our hearts. They will truly be missed, but not forgotten in our hearts and loving memories that they left us. Dearest Chris,
I sure miss you sweetie.
Still having a very hard time wrapping my brain around the idea that you are gone. I never in my wildest nightmares imagined that this would be a reality. That you are gone and that I won't see you getting off that plane in September. This wasn't part of the plan sweetie. We were supposed to have many years together. I missed the first 20, but I was SO looking forward to making all that up to you. And spending the next 20 making up for lost time. I had so many plans for us, and so many people for you to meet. I looked forward to your wedding day and one day meeting your children.
But none of this was meant to be. God called you home to be with him instead. Or as someone told me, "God needed another flower for his garden". I'm sure you are making the big guy himself very proud. As you made all of us here so very proud of the amazing man you had become!
I thank God everyday for even knowing you for a second. I will forever be thankful that you had such a wonderful heart to accept and forgive me. And that you wanted to meet me. December 26th, 2005 will forever be the very best day of my life! June 20th, 2006 will be the darkest.
You are in a better place now my sweet angel. Know that I have always loved you since the day you were born and always will until we meet again.

expected your tour to end like this.
We had your service on Sat, July 1st. It was attended by over 1000

so pleased by the attention. This is the most difficult situation we
have ever faced. I know you are in
the Lord's hands and are watching over us but we would give anything to have you with us. At least we have the knowledge that we will see
you again soon. All of your buddies
and officers have had nothing but great praise for you and the service
you performed in Iraq. You would be
amazed at how much you touched their
lives. We are so proud of how well
you served and what high standards you held yourself up to. You are
such an inspiration to so many people and everyone has said how much you have changed their lives.
I know you changed ours. You were such a blessing from God! You have
always been my heart. How do we go
on without you? We have been greatly supported with prayer and love and that has been so special.
Stay strong my angel! You are our

To the family of Christopher Leon:
I can only imagine what you and your family have gone through since being notified of the death of Christopher. I want you to know that you are not alone. Hearts of families all over are grieving with you.
I will be honoring Christopher's life and memory with the Patriot Guard Riders at the service on Saturday. It is my hope that you will feel the love and concern and caring that we all are feeling for your family & that it will help you get through this very difficult time.
You are living the nightmare of family who has a loved one serving his country. I know this time is a difficult one in which no words can express how you feel, just as no words can express how much I feel for you and your family. But know that God above carried Christopher home and said, "an awesome job well done."
The path Christopher chose to follow has not ended.
But he now walks in a different place. Not one of war and heartache but one of happiness and eternal peace. His life will continue to touch your family, his marine family and anyone who had the privilege of knowing him. His life reflected his love for his family, his country, his Marine brothers and his compassion for those who do not know the meaning of freedom. His life is an inspiration and should be an example that we all follow and honor. Christopher has not left you, he has been re-deployed to Heaven.
I wish that I could ease your pain and sadness, but it will be a long, slow and painful climb. Pain this deep will never go entirely away, but I pray that as each day that passes the hurt becomes a little less. And the memories of a lifetime will sustain you. The memories are your keepsake that can never be taken away. God has Christopher in his keeping, but you have him forever in your thoughts and hearts.
I hope that this letter will help to begin the healing process, so that your memories of Christopher will shine through the sadness. I will continue to pray for you and your family.

Dear Jim and Kathy,
My heart hurts so bad for you. I can't even imagin losing a child. I have to tell you how much I admire your strength. I pray that you and Jim are proud of yourselves for the hero Chris turned out to be. The values he had are from the two of you. I only knew Chris through you, I was there through some of those hard times when you weren't quite sure what direction he was going in. He finished this chapter of his life a great hero. I wish we could see all this through God's eyes, then it might make some sense. I can almost hear the angels singing when they ushered him into the presence of the Lord, and Jesus telling "him well done my good and faithful servent". Please know I'm here for you.

My family and I are praying for you and your family during this difficult time. We send our deepest empathy as we lost our Marine on 11/30/05 in Fallujah. We are comforted to know that our Marines are serving their country with such honor and bravery. We are so proud of our Marines and all of our other service men and women for all that they have done and continue to do to keep us safe and to give us the freedom we have that so many take for granted.
They are true Heroes and need to always be remembered for their selflessness and sacrifice to better our world. We will forever be united in the loss of our heros. We are so sorry for your loss and hope our words will ease some of the pain, and maybe fill some of your emptiness.

To the Family of Cpl. Christpher D. Leon;
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courgeous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life. We lost a son 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday.
I know first hand there are no words right now that will bring you the comfort and peace you need. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you mourn this loss. We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with. I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally, but none of these courageous men and women will be forgotten. They will never be able to be replaced, but sometime, someday your loving memories will help to sustain you. This courageous soldier will forever now be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well. To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is those wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever. If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero. God Bless this courageous soldier and family.
