Ileene J. Berkus

1924 - 2016

March 20, 1924 - July 1, 2016 Ileene passed away peacefully in her sleep at home of pneumonia and complications of Alzheimer's with her loving family surrounding her. A renaissance woman, Ileene worked full time in her family retail business while raising three wonderful children. A graduate of UCLA, she had a remarkable group of close friends from her sorority. Singing was her passion and she sang at each wedding as her sisters were married. She continued this singing in later life with the Wilshire Blvd Temple adult choir and then the Verdi Chorus in Santa Monica. Her greatest joy was her family. However, as an only child, she valued bringing together the extended family every summer for huge backyard picnics. Ileene was always positive, had a smile for everyone and an engaging and infectious laugh. Ileene is survived by her husband of 71 years, Don; son Dean Berkus (Karen); daughter Cindy Feder (Philip); and her six grandchildren: Emily Feder, Lauren Feder and Stephanie Feder; Alyssa Berkus; and Jordan Berkus Simon and Jeremy Berkus. Her son Craig Berkus sadly predeceased her. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer's Greater Los Angeles: www.alzgla.org. Services will be Sunday, July 3rd, 2016 at 9am at Hillside Memorial Park, 6001 Centinela Avenue, Los Angeles.
