James Arthur Holt D.D.S.

1935 - 2018

June 7, 1935 - August 24, 2018 Dr. James Holt passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family. He was born to Arta and Dr. Harold Holt at Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital. He leaves his beloved wife of 61 years, Clunie Anne Holt and his family, Cameron Holt Schmidt (Richard) and James Holt (Diane). He was adored by his grandchildren, Hillary, Claire, Richard, James, Lilly, Jack and Kate, and was predeceased by his granddaughters Anne and Lacey. He leaves his sister Patricia McCartney and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He graduated as senior class president from Hollywood High School in 1953. In school, he played second trumpet to Herbie Alpert and ranked as the No. 1 18-year-old tennis player for the Los Angeles city schools. He played an exhibition match against Maureen Connolly in the Pacific Southwest Tennis Tournament that year. He later played for the United States Air Force UK Tennis Team. He served his country as a Captain in the medical corps of the Strategic Air Command stationed in High Wycombe, England. He was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity while attending USC undergraduate. He was a member of Omicron Kappa Upsilon, the Phi Beta Kappa of dental schools. At the USC School of Dentistry, he was elected the outstanding faculty teacher, became the Associate Dean and Director of the Faculty Practice. His dental career included mentoring his students, his private practice and lecturing internationally. He was president of the Los Angeles Dental Society, the USC Dental Alumni Association and Chairman of the USC Dentistry Associates. His honors included being elected to the American College of General Dentists, International College of General Dentists and Pierre Fauchard Academy. In later years, he played golf at Los Angeles Country Club with a single digit handicap. He shared his love of beach and sea with his family. He was a quiet, gentle man who enjoyed his full and rich life of 83 years. Services are private.
