Marlene Greenstein Stern Sadan

Marlene Sadan Obituary

December 29, 1937 - July 7, 2025 Marlene Greenstein - Stern - Sadan, age 87, passed away this day, Monday July 7, 2025 in her sleep.  She is survived by her four sons and their wives and partners, Shawn Stern / Elizabetta Covizzi; Mark Stern / Danielle Spaust; Adam Stern / Merysa Nichols; Jamie Stern / Dana Stern as well as Marlene's three granddaughters, Madison Stern, Fauna Stern and Zuma Stern. Marlene was a loving Mother and Grandmother. She worked various jobs while raising her four sons. She worked for Jim Henson and the muppets in the late 70's and early 80's.  She worked in magazine publishing  and even worked in TV and Film production for a time in Los Angeles, from the TV series Alf to a 1981 remake of Splendor in the Grass.  But her passion was early childhood development. She adored children.  She worked as a teacher and a preschool director, running her own school for a number of years in Mar Vista.  She was considered the original punk rock Mom, allowing wayward kids in Hollywood a refuge in her home, a safe place to reset for teens from broken homes.  She was Mom to many punks in the early to mid 1980s.  Marlene had a wicked sense of humor and the biggest heart.  She could find out the life story of everyone she met because she genuinely cared about people and their stories.   Born in Toronto, Canada, she married Sandor Stern and they moved to Los Angeles in 1970. From Hidden Hills to Beverly Hills, eventually settling on the west side in Mar Vista.  In her later years, Marlene lived in Venice Beach and was very involved in the Jewish community around the boardwalk at the Bar Community Center.  Marlene carved out a life for herself and her boys, provided a home full of love and laughter.  She will be missed beyond words.  We love you Mom. Funeral / Celebration of life will be a private event for friends and family.

Yesterday

I will always remember my Aunt Marlene as a kind, giving, and accepting person who loved everyone. She would make friends with nearly anyone and she always saw the good in everyone. She was so good to my mother, Marty Sillman-Green especially when she was very ill, just before passing away. Its too bad more people in this world are not like Marlene because it would be a much, much better place to live. My wife Cynndy and I will miss having lunches in Venice beach area with her but most of all, we will miss her kind and loving spirit tremendously!
R.I.P. Marlene.

I did not know Marlene well but her late husband Edmund Sadan was the father of one of my closest friends and played a big role in my early years. I do know that Marlene made Edmund very happy - they were very engaged in their community and always traveling. It seemed like such a joyful and caring marriage and I am happy they found each other and shared the last 13 years of Edmund's life. May her memory be for a blessing.
