I was saddened to hear of Mike's passing. I apologize to his family for hearing about it too late and for not attending his memorial service.
Mike was a wonderful Physician who exuded knowledge and had the ability to rationally apply it. He was a resource to his Infectious Diseases colleagues both within Kaiser Permanente and nationally when he spoke for vaccine use and appropriate use of antibiotics in childhood infections.
Mike will be greatly missed by all, and that will be difficult. However, we can find comfort in the fact that we knew this wonderful man and that his legacy remains in so many places. A special hug to his family at this difficult time.

It is with great sadness that I heard about the death of Mike, a friend, colleague and an outstanding physician and scholar. Thousands of children owe their life to his knowledge and wisdom.
I have known mike for over 25 years. He was the gentleman in the full sense of the word. Not onl an outstanding physician and expert, but also a highly cultured gentleman. You could talk to him about any subject whether medicine, history, science and you would soon find him to be an expert. His humility combined by his wisdom made him an outstanding human being. I can not open he Pedantic Red Book without thinking of Mike
It is said a man is not dead if his name is often spoken. How true!!
Rest in peace my friend. Your legacy will live for ever

I too was so saddened to hear about Mike's passing. I will always remember his brilliance and dedication to science, along with his love for life. He was an amazing mentor.. sort of like a rock idol for immunization, and I am deeply affected by his loss.It seems so unfair. To his family, I offer my deepest feelings of sympathy. He truly was a wonderful human being. I will always remember his smile. Laurene Mascola MD

Mike was an inspiration to many pediatricians and his advocacy for vaccines was most inspiring for me. I am saddened to hear about his passing and send my deepest condolences to the family.

Pediatrics lost a Giant, I lost a friend...His wife lost a wonderful husband and the children a wonderful father. It was a wonderfulto be a colleague of Mike and practice at Kaiser with him for 25 years. To read his chart notes in red was a challenge. Pleasant, always available, frequently a good laugh and always a gentleman. It is sad to have such a wonderful man die so quickly. I will miss him....but I will never forget him. So many doctors owe their knowledge of pediatrics to Mike. He was an encyclopedia of information. He always knew the answer to a medical mystery and if he didn't he said "well,,we see that sometime!"
My messgae of sympathy to Joan, Josg, and Stephanie.
The world has lost a "good man"
Let us never forget him !
