Robert Dulin Obituary

November 13, 1928 - January 24, 2018 Bobby/Pops/Padre passed away peacefully at the ranch in Bayfield, CO, on January 24th 2018 with his daughter, sons, and son-in-law by his side. Born to Jane and Garretson Dulin in Los Angeles, CA. Bob married the love of his life, Susan Williamson Dulin, on May 28, 1955 whom he first met when he was six and she was four. The twinkle in his eye, caring manner and humor touched his family, friends and all that came in contact with him. Bob was a graduate of the Polytechnic School in Pasadena and then had brief success at UC Berkeley and Claremont Men's College before completing his education at the School of Foreign Trade (now Thunderbird) in Phoenix. He served his country in the Army and was stationed in Europe until he was honorably discharged in 1952. Bob worked in the California banking industry with time spent at Security Pacific Bank and the Bank of California. He loved a good game of dominoes at the California Club with a traffic thinner or two before coming home to his family. Bob often claimed his two greatest achievements were the marriage to his beloved, Susie, and moving his family to southwestern Colorado. He loved his Texas Longhorn and Red Angus cattle. He loved the ranch and appreciated all the help and oversight that Tim and Caroline have provided over the many years. His interests did not stop there. He claimed to have impeccable taste in art, silver, and antiques. He loved his country, Australia, WWII history, trains, stocks, the Texas Hill Country, vibrant color, Western art, cars, road trips, picnics on the ranch, Dixieland jazz, travel, land conservation, the Broncos (when they didn't suck), a quiet Cisco, Makers Mark, a good nudge and good food & vino. He loved his family and friends. Bob was a regular on Wickenburg's Desert Caballeros trail rides in the mid-'60s and '70s and later helped start the Durango Mountain Caballeros in the San Juans. He was meticulous and had a near photographic memory for all things family, history and business. He loved a good pressed shirt with his favorite dress sweats and welcomed many into his home. Bobby loved his dogs, especially his 'sweetheart', Charlie, as the end neared. The ranch became a magnet for family and friends over holidays and his/their hospitality knew few peers. Pops was conservative, loved a strong military and the O&G industry. At times he was outspoken. In his family's words, Padre was genuine, loyal, generous, loving, real, caring, outrageous, compassionate, determined, honest, blunt, incredible, legend, mischievous, engaging, curious, patriotic, adventurous, sweet, wicked sharp and unforgettable. His final years would not have been as comfortable without the help of his caregivers Jaimie, Summer, Madonna and Ros. Bobby is survived by his daughter Cinnie Herr and her husband Frank (Santa Fe, NM), their children Charlie, Dulie, Meg and Tom; sons Jim and his wife Janet (Edwards, CO), and his children Hunter, Tyler and Callie and her daughters Erica and Emily; and Ken and his wife Sally (Niwot, CO), their daughters Molly, Katie and Kelly; his brother Garry and daughter Shelby (Steamboat Springs, CO); his brother-in-law (and good mate) Spud Williamson and family; Sue's brother Tad's wife, Cici Williamson, and family; and the extended Ware family. He was predeceased by his sister Ethlyn and her husband Gordon Ware. In lieu of flowers, please direct any support to their favorite local cause, Hospice at Mercy in Durango, Colorado. Our world will burn a little less brightly without him in it.
