Robert David Dunham

December 8, 1926 - January 11, 2024 Dave was born on December 8, 1926, in Los Angeles, California, as the younger of two children of Mary Janet Fellows Dunham and Walter Dix Dunham. Dave passed away peacefully on January 11, 2024, at the age of 97 in Idyllwild, California, three months after the death of his wife of 71 years, Ann Jameson Dunham. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Janet, her son, Steven Walter Lester, and her husband, Charles W. Hammond.

After his 1946 discharge from the U.S. Navy after World War II, Dave returned to Stanford University, graduating with a B.A. in Education in 1949, and then earning a B.S. in Engineering from the University of Southern California in 1952.

On September 6, 1952, he married Ann Jameson, of Corona, California, whom he had met at Stanford. Dave and Ann are survived by their four children, Miriam, Elaine (with her husband Bill), Robert (with his wife Sheryl), and Catherine (with her husband David), twelve grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren (with two more expected in April). His surviving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews are numerous.

Except for two years in San Juan Capistrano in the late 1960s, Ann and Dave raised their children in Pasadena, California. Dave worked as an engineer, construction manager, or consultant for various firms and institutions including his own, Transamerica, Cal Tech, and Quiller Construction.

Dave enjoyed working with his hands, repairing things, fabricating items with wood (generally favoring 2x4s), mathematics, music and puzzles. His grandchildren remember "Papa" delivering donuts, providing electric cars to drive and crash, sending a monthly book allowance, turning a red wagon into a pirate ship, serving as a waiter at Christmas teas, and tutoring in math and physics. He liked to laugh and especially enjoyed the humor of Don Rickles. He watched and rewatched every episode of the Lawrence Welk Show. He made lots of lists.

His family loved him deeply and misses him.
