Teddy Chase Obituary

Chase, Teddy Louise Farmer Oates
February 9, 1940 - August 26, 2011
Mrs. Chase passed away at her home in Charlotte, NC on Friday, Aug. 26 after a two year battle with cancer, surrounded by the support and love of her family. She was 71. Teddy was born February 9, 1940, in Bakersfield, CA, the daughter of Ted and Louise Farmer. The marriage ended in divorce and Louise soon married Francis Simmons. Teddy, older brother Roger, and younger brother Steve grew up in San Diego, CA and Phoenix, AZ. Teddy attended North and West HS, graduating from the latter and a Cheerleader at both schools.
In 1958, Teddy moved to Los Angeles to pursue a modeling career. There she met and married actor Warren Oates. They had two children, Jennifer and Timothy. They divorced in 1966. Throughout the 70's, 80's and 90's Teddy spent time in Atlanta, Phoenix, and Los Angeles working in the television industry. One word many use to describe Teddy is ??spirit??. She approached each challenge with grit, humor and a smile. Those lucky enough to work with her never failed to express admiration for what she brought to the table. She sought adventure in all things she did, and loved to tell stories about her escapades recounting each tale with the same gusto, whether it was the first telling or the hundredth.
In 1999, Teddy got a letter from her high school sweetheart, Jim Chase. This letter brought her to Salisbury, North Carolina, where she and Jim were married on Feb. 8, 2000. They moved from Salisbury to Charlotte in 2005. She loved to garden in their tree-lined yard, and became a big Panthers fan, often spending Sundays at her daughter Jennifer's house at football parties where she cheered her team.
She is survived by her loving husband, Jim Chase; daughter Jennifer Oates; son Timothy Oates; and brothers Roger and Steve Simmons, as well as loving family and friends throughout the country. She is preceded in death by her parents and sister Eloise (Helen) Stricker.
A Memorial service will be held Sunday, September 25th, at 12PM, at her home. Afterward, a Panther game watching party will be held in her honor. Please contact Jennifer Oates at [email protected] if you would like to attend. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Hospice and Palliative Care of Charlotte, 1420 E. 7th St., Charlotte, NC 28204, or the hospice care provider of the donor's choice.

To Teddy's family, I first met your mom in '87 and worked with her many times over the years. She was an awesome woman and the "real deal". I loved her dearly. Tough as nails and allways laughing (even when she was angry, she'd be laughing somehow). If she liked you, she was all in. A great ally to have in your corner and a shining personality. We will all miss her terribly.
Condolences and warm wishes to all of you. Thanks for letting us share your mom.
Love ya Teddy... Virg

Mom... you were always there for us. Whether it was simply your love and encouragement and support in whatever it was we were doing, to simply making sure we had all we needed to get through the day to day life of growing up. Always having dinner for us, whether we were were there or not.

I am going to miss you so much. Your spirit is in me, and as long as I am alive, so too, will your spirit live. I am still grieving your loss, this void that has come into my life, but soon, will get right back on that horse and continue on that path that you were so instrumental in getting me heading down, as I want to make you proud of me.

I love you, Mom, and only wish you knew how many peoples lives you affected by becoming their friend.

Forever in my heart and soul.

Your ever-loving son,

Timothy

My Mom loved her time in Atlanta. During the 70's she worked at WSB-TV where she was tasked with creating a children's series hosted by kids, for kids. The 2 Show was born and how she loved that challenge! While at Turner Communications, she pitched for their softball team, the "Not so Braves" and she loved being in that spotlight and so felt a part of the team whether on the field or Assisting the VP Finance. During the early 80's she assisted the VP Finance at WXIA/Gannett Broadcasting. This was her last job in Atlanta and if if weren't for her I never would have had the courage to interview with Al Flanagan, THE MAN. With her encouragement and faith, I made the team. WXIA was our family for four years. She had such wonderful memories of the many friends she had from her years with you all. To all who enriched her life, she never forgot you and told many a lively story about your times together. Know that you all made a difference in her life. Jennifer Oates, Teddy's daughter.
