Henry was born to Henry and Neta De Vries in Toledo, Ohio. He grew up in Michigan and enjoyed fishing. During his teens, his family moved to California. He attended South Gate High School in South Gate, CA.

Henry began working at McDonnell Douglas (now Boeing) at age 23, and remained with them through their merge to McDonnell Douglas and Boeing Aircraft. Henry created parts for almost every commercial airplane built at McDonnell Douglas/Boeing.

Henry's hobbies included bowling and working on cars when he and Sharon were first married, and later became interested in NASCAR. He also enjoyed working around the house and yard, and loved dogs.
