Calvin Watts Obituary

With great sorrow we announce the passing of our beloved father Calvin D. Watts, 55. He was born in Las Cruces, New Mexico, on June 26, 1959 to David Watts, a highly respected fire safety professional, and Irene Watts, a registered dietitian for the Department of Veteran Affairs. Calvin graduated from Las Cruces High School in 1978. Soon after graduation, Calvin married his high school sweetheart Mary Silva and they moved to Paonia, Colorado, and started a family and a career in the mining industry. As the years passed and the mining industry faltered, Calvin returned to Las Cruces to be with his family and friends and assumed a position as an over the road truck driver. Calvin was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting, fishing and most of all he enjoyed motorcycling. He later gave up over the road driving to become a local fuel delivery driver with routes though Arizona, New Mexico and Texas. He did so because he wanted to be home to ride with his sons at every occasion. Dirt biking was his particular favorite activity and he rode competitively for numerous years winning many local as well as regional events such as the New Mexico Desert Racing Championship Series. As his two sons grew up and their love for motorcycling grew into a family affair, Calvin used any excuse to go ride with his friends and family. As his sons grew up and started their own lives, Calvin maintained close contact and started riding street cruisers and sharing time with his new granddaughter. Calvin had made mention that if he were to die he would hope it would be quick and he wanted to be on a motorcycle. As fate would have it, he passed away as he wanted in Odessa, Texas, on May 18, 2015. Calvin was preceded in death by his parents David and Irene Watts and a brother John Watts. Surviving family includes a sister Ginny Smith and niece, Moriah Barton, as well as two sons Calvin E Watts and Brandon J Watts and two grandchildren, Avery V Watts and Adelyn R Watts. No services are planned; cremation took place a short time after the accident. Calvin had hoped his remains would be spread in each of the riding areas he loved so much. He will be remembered as a loving father, a dedicated family man and an avid motorcyclist right to the end.
