Peggy Gould Obituary

Peggy K. Gould, 73, passed away on Feb. 6, 2009, from pancreatic cancer. She was the only child born to Clarice and O.R. Koon. She grew up in Sardis and Florence, S.C., and graduated from McClenaghan High School in Florence in 1953. Peggy attended Winthrop College (now University) in Rock Hill, S.C., earning a bachelor degree in Home Economics in 1957.
Following graduation, she was employed by the S.C. Electric and Gas Company for four years. Then she enrolled in Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, Okla., where she earned a master's degree in Family Resource Management in 1962.
In September 1962, Peggy married William R. Gould III and the couple moved to Miami, Fla. In 1964, they moved to Bozeman, Mont., which became their home, and birthplace of their two children, Kirby Gould Mason and William R. Gould IV.
Peggy enjoyed being a homemaker, gardening, playing bridge and supporting her children in their school and after-school activities. She was a loyal member of the First Presbyterian Church. She had a strong faith in a loving God and believed that service to others was a way of sharing His love. Peggy served on many church committees, taught Sunday School for 20 years, served as a coordinator for the multi-church Vacation Bible School, served as an elder and most recently as a deacon. Additionally, she delivered Meals-On-Wheels for many years until her health prohibited it.
In recent years, Peggy enjoyed being a grandmother to four loving grandchildren. She taught Alex Mason to knit and needlepoint and enjoyed cooking with Taylor Mason. She had the pleasure of watching Hannah Gould learn to ride a bike and liked playing board games with Will Gould.
We are grateful to the caring staff at the Bozeman Deaconess Cancer Center, the Palliative Care unit and Hospice for their expertise, care and support during her last illness, and thankful that God allowed her to remain with us as long as she did.
A celebration of Peggy's life will be held Friday, Feb. 13, in Bozeman, Mont. Private family interment will take place.
Memorial gifts may be made to Mesilla Valley Hospice instead of Memorial gifts may be made to Wesley Monumental Methodist Church, Savannah, Ga., or the Hancock Day School, Savannah, Ga.

Dear Family, I am Winnie Jernigan Johnson originally from Sardis. I so well remember your mom. She was always such a happy person always smiling. She was 6 years ahead of me in school but I remember mostly at Sardis Church.
Mrs. Clarice fixed my flowers for my wedding when I married my husband on December 6, 1959. Please accept my sympathies. Winnie Johnson

I will miss Peggy. I just today was notified of her passing. I had hoped to be in Montana for her celebration of life. She is a gracious lady and beautiful person. As a neighbor and friend, she was a joy to be around, as is Bill. She always brightened my day with her smile and good words. She loved the Lord and I am happy to know she is at peace and waiting for us.

Dear Family:
Often it is difficult to find comfort when we lose someone we love so dearly, and grieving is a difficult process. I pray peace for you in the coming months. May God give you solace and the comfort of knowing He holds you in His hands and will walk this path with you.
