Virginia Jacquez Obituary

Virginia L. Jacquez, passed away at the age of 82 surrounded by her family on May 03, 2010 at Good Samaritan Village in Las Cruces after a courageous battle against breast cancer. She was born in Canutillo, Texas on July 05, 1927 to Jose and Clementa Leos and married Arturo Jacquez in 1946. She grew up in Chamerino and after she married Arturo, they lived in Anthony (El Bosque) until they moved to Las Cruces in 1991. Virginia was a loving mother to her children but the kindness and genuine caring she showed to everyone was a true reflection of her love for all.

For many years, Virginia worked as a school bus driver for the Gadsden Schools and also drove the activity run in the evenings. She was also employed by the Dairy Queen in Anthony and worked for Legg's Hosiery Company.

Virginia is survived by her daughter, Rosemarie Sanchez (Fidel) of Las Cruces and her son, Albert Jacquez (Carol) of Mesilla, daughter-in-law, Jenny Jacquez from Las Cruces, a sister, Nena Jacquez from Chamberino and a very special cousin, Frances (Kika) Jacquez, from Mesilla Park, who was raised with the family as her sister. Other survivors include several grandchildren and great-grand children. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Arturo, two sons, Arturo Jacquez, Jr., (Tudy) and Danny Jacquez, a step grandson, James Lucero, and a brother, Francisco (Kiko) Leos Sr.

Family and friends will join together to celebrate the funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. May 08, 2010 at St. Albert the Great Newman Parish with Fr. Mitch Dowalgo officiating, interment will follow the mass in the Columbarium, also at St. Albert. At Virginia's request, we will not have a rosary but the family asks that you pray the rosary in her memory in the privacy of your own home the night before. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Good Samaritan Village, 3025 Terrace Drive, Las Cruces, NM 88011 or to Mesilla Valley Hospice, 299 E. Montana, Las Cruces, NM 88005.

A very special and heartfelt "thank you" to Dr. William Baker and his staff, Dr. Constance Wash and her staff, and every staff member at Good Sam's Village and Mesilla Valley Hospice who treated Virginia with an enormous amount of kindness, understanding, and compassion.
