Andrew Lee Morgan Sr. September 27, 1911 - March 28, 2004 SMITHS, AL - Andrew Lee Morgan Sr., 92, of 755 Lee Road 294, Smiths, died Sunday, March 28 at Canterbury Health Facility. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, April 1st at New Nelius Missionary Baptist Church in Smiths with the Reverend E.L. Morgan officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery, according to Hill-Watson Memorial Chapel, 2919 Hamilton Road, Columbus. Visitation will be today from 1 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Morgan was born Sept. 27, 1911 in Russell County, Ala., the son of the late Susie Daniels and George Henry Hugley. He retired from Eagle & Phenix Textile. He was well known in the Smiths Station community where he served in many ways to improve the community. Mr. Morgan was a member and the founder of New Nelius Baptist Church. He was predeceased by his wife, Alzattie Nelson Morgan and five children. Survivors include four sons, Robert James Morgan and Walter Lee Morgan, both of Smiths, Charles L. Turpin of Phenix City and Jessie Turpin of Columbus; 11 daughters, Susie (Isiah) Rowell, Mary L. Morgan, Lizzie Hardge, Elsie (Calvin) Quarles and Jearlen (Tommie) Williams, all of Smiths, Sallie (Willie) Thomas of Tuskegee, Ala., Alzattie Ward, Annie Morgan of Phenix City, Bertha Bellamy, Beverly and Margaret Turpin, all of Smiths; a brother, Clinton Morgan of Gary, Ind., and three step brothers, Sidney Brooks, Willie Brooks and Jake Brooks, all of Phenix City; a sister, Bertha Mae Thomas of Smiths; 74 grandchildren, 67 great grandchildren, 11 great great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
