Homer Williams Obituary

Homer C. Williams July 3, 1913- October 5, 2006 COLUMBUS, GA— Mr. Homer C. Williams, 93, of Columbus, died Thursday, October 5, at Columbus Hospice House. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 10, at St. John AME Church, with Dr. Deborah Grant, Pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Memory Gardens, according to Sconiers Funeral Home, 836-5th Ave., Columbus. Visitation will be 12:00-4:00 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mr. Williams was born July 3, 1913, in Ft. Mitchell, AL, the son of the late Osie Hirom Williams, Sr., and Helen Grant Williams. He was a retired educator for the Atlanta Public School System. He received his B.S. degree from Savannah State College and his Masters degree from Atlanta University, and continued with further studies at Illinois Technical University. Mr. Williams was a member of St. John AME Church, a Steward Emeritus, Sons of Allen and the Starlighter's Club. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Faye Gentry Williams. Survivors include one son, Wayne B. Williams of Sparta, GA; one sister, Mrs. Helen Barnhart of Columbus; two nieces, Bernadette Cody of Charlotte, NC, and Cheryl Mays of Reston, VA; two great-nieces, Danya Albright (Clyde) of Columbus, and Mia Horace (David) of Richmond, VA; two great-great-nieces, Layla Albright and Joycelyn Albright; two great-great-nephews, Clyde Albright II and Zion Horace; and a host of other relatives and friends.

I worked with Faye for several years at Walden Middle School in Atlanta. Homer was an excellent photographer and was the photographer at my wedding reception. He also helped my family when our mother passed by making a black and white photo from a color picture. They were good people.
