Jeannie, Park, Dr. Simpson, John -
I'm sorry for your loss. I loved your mother, Jean Simpson, like a sister.

When I first moved across the street from her, I had just lost my husband in the last year. She and her poetry and my poetry and I were all great company for each other. We loved to share our poetry and she encouraged my writing. She loved for me to read poetry to her, especially the "Highwayman". She always told me the stories about her "school days" and her early life. Jean was a "lady" from the old days, a fine Christian friend who gave me a large part of herself.

Jean loved her children and their spouses and her grandchildren so very much. She was so proud of her family! She has joined her sister Rachel and they now have a Poet Laureate in Heaven.

Please don't let anything happen to her precious poetry. It will keep her alive.

Thank you all for sharing her with me. She touched my life at a time when I needed it.

Hello Bill, John, Park and Jeanie:

Eric was checking the Ledger Enq today and saw your Mom's obituary. I wish so much we could have known in time. I would have driven down for the funeral. Your Mother was a great inspriration to me. She and I shared a love of poetry. I still have one of the books of poetry she gave me when I graduated high school, with her sweet notes of encouragement written in. I continued to come see her for several years when I came back to Columbus, but didn't find her at home the past few years. I did some googling and found her at Calvary. Christmas '07 we went to the home and visited with her. I realized she had had a stroke and couldn't talk. At first she didn't recognize me, then her eyes lit up! I talked to her and told her what was happening in our lives, about Aunt 'Cile and how we missed her. I'm so glad we found her and had a few minutes with her, even though she couldn't communicate.
I have so many fond memories of my childhood and spending time with all of you! Park, you were my first love (of only two); John I'll never forget our tractor wreck in the freezing darkness and our letters when you were in the Nat'l Guard (Eric will never forget the punch you gave him for dating Merry! Hah!We have fun laughing about that); Jeanie you were my good friend for several years. I have so many special memories with your family. Especially Mexico Beach, the catamaran; shooting bottle rockets that went into the old folks house! I would love to hear from any or all of you. My email is [email protected], phone is 706 543 1175. We are still in Athens. We share in your loss and love all of you! Debbie Horne Kinard
