Charlene 'Sam' Christian

Jaffrey NH - Charlene E. Christian, 78, of Jaffrey, died peacefully on Friday, June 28, 2024, in the comfort of her own home and with her beloved family by her side.

'Sam' was born on June 12, 1946, in New Britain, CT, a daughter of the late Charles and Edith (Simmons) Soule, II. She was raised in Peterborough, NH and graduated with the Class of 1965 from the former Peterborough High School.

She married Stephen A. 'Bozo' Christian on September 9, 1972, and together they made their home in Jaffrey and began a family.

Early on, Charlene had worked at Brookstone in Peterborough, and for Dr. C. Francis Wozmak in Jaffrey, as well as at the Town of Jaffrey's Water Department. She later found her way back to the medical field and worked as an Optician for Dr. Theodore Renna in Peterborough, before eventually retiring from Nashua Eye Associates in Milford.

Art was truly Sam's passion, and she shared that passion with family and friends, and by teaching art at the former Saint Patrick School in Jaffrey for many years. She enjoyed local history and also loved touring around with her husband, whether it was on the back of their Harley or in their different classic cars through the years, but most important to Charlene was her family.

In addition to her parents, Sam was also predeceased by her brothers, Rodger 'Malcolm' Soule and Charles 'Skip' Soule, III.

Charlene is survived by her husband of almost 52 years, and by her daughter, Stephanie and her husband Eric Dionne of Jaffrey, her son, Eric and his wife Sally Christian of Jaffrey, her grandchildren, Alec, Briana, Andrew, Keith, Gabrielle, Olivia, and Kurt, her great granddaughter Braelynn, and many in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.

Friends and family are warmly invited to calling hours on Thursday, July 25, 2024, from 11:00am to 1:00pm at the Cournoyer Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 33 River Street, (Route 202) Jaffrey.

A Memorial Service will take place in the funeral home chapel immediately following calling hours beginning at 1:00pm. Rev. Wilfred Deschamps, Pastor of Saint Patrick Parish, will be the celebrant. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Saint Patrick Cemetery, Jaffrey.

The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions be made in Charlene's memory to the Jaffrey-Rindge Memorial Ambulance, P.O. Box 107, Jaffrey, NH 03452-0107, or to the Jaffrey Firefighters Company, Inc., 138 Turnpike Road, Jaffrey, NH 03452.
