Joyce Como Obituary

SHARON – Joyce L. Como, 75, of Sharon, died after a sudden illness at Monadnock Community Hospital on Saturday February 24, 2018. Joyce was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts on January 15, 1943, the daughter of John Drobot and Gertrude (Belanger) Drobot.

Joyce attended Cambridge High and Latin in her home town of Cambridge, attended courses at Bunker Hill Community College, Leslie College and Harvard College. In addition, Joyce lectured a course in early childhood development at Harvard. Joyce was an avid gardener, graduated from the Cass School of Floral Design and volunteered at the Lyman Estate greenhouse in Waltham, Massachusetts. Joyce put her talents to use creating an English Rose Garden and woodland plant setting at her home in Waltham. Joyce worked at MIT Clinical Research Center in Cambridge as the department secretary and the assistant Center data manager. Joyce worked for a period at BayBank Systems, the computer technology division of BayBank, as secretary to the computer technology manager.

Joyce purchased land in Sharon, New Hampshire in 2001 where she and her husband built a home for their retirement years. Joyce was a warm loving person who easily made friends with all she met. Although raised in the city, she was a country girl at heart. She liked spending occasional summers at her Uncle's egg farm in Carlisle, Massachusetts. She also enjoyed observing the various woodland creatures who occasioned her Sharon landscape.

In the recent nine years Joyce showered her affection on her German Shepherd, Jake (her "baby" known to many in the region). In her later years, chronic spinal pain would cause many broken-sleep nights; on those occasions, her husband would be awakened by the patter of paws and feet, punctuated by an occasional giggle, as she and Jake chased each other around the house.

Joyce is survived by her loving husband of more than 57 years, Ronald Como; her children, Ronald Como Jr. of Natick, Massachusetts, Beverly Depiot of Bordeaux, France, and Jeffrey Como of Natick, Massachusetts, as well as their families. She will also be missed by her siblings: Carol Williams of Manchester; Dorothy Natsi of Londonderry; Elanor Birdsong of Ventura, California and Denise Emus of Greenville, South Carolina.

She was predeceased by her daughter, Renee Damms, and her brothers, John Drobot and Robert Drobot.

Visiting Hours will be held on Friday March 2, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Jellison Funeral Home, 25 Concord Street, Peterborough, NH 03458. Street parking is suggested.

Very sad! In the early 70s I used to visit my Mom in Cambridge and became friends with Ron and Jeff. I became a musician, a guitarist. Many times throughout my life the vision of Ron and Jeff's Mom playing guitar on the front steps of their apartment building inspired me.
